    Give us a challenge...I have got the design of explosive manufacturing plants licked!

    You have got my attention and my respect. 28 years Acquisition Corps, now with DCMA overseeing explosive production on the commercial side of things.

    Got a chance to chat with OSU's Baja team last week for about an hour and got to check the car out as well. The trans they fully designed and machined themselves was incredible.

    Will be joining next fall for sure :cool:

    Was a Physics major - now I design sensors for everything except vehicles. Mostly EE work, with a little ME on the side.

    Awesome. I like working with future engineers. I'm on the intern committee at work and work with them, and am on the board at the Vo-Tech school I went to in highschool for the Pre-Engineering class.

    Yep. It's nice when you have a high B but it sucks when you have a low A.
    I'm trying to graduate with a 3.5 gpa so I can get honors. I'm at a 3.44 right now.

    Honeycomb composite sleeper platform.
    Got a degree in EE specializing in optical fiber networks. Received an offer with IBM on Christmas Eve working in there optics group. By spring they sold the group yet kept the offer open with their semiconductor team designing memory arrays for the Play Station 3. From there I worked with Lockheed Martin on the JSF/F-35 and started my own unmanned systems group partnering with Skunkworks. With a planned closure of the Minnesota plant I moved to New Mexico training Special forces on a 10 year contract that ended after 6 months. From there I worked with Honeywell redefining how they did defense avionics in engineering and manufacturing. Currently working as an independent contractor with Sandia and the City of Albuquerque. Short story is I've done Optics, Semiconductors, Mechanical, Composites, Research and Design, Avionics, and now Program Management. Would love to find an engineering manager position in up in Colorado.

    It has been a fun ride thus far and only expect it to get better moving forward.

    Undergrad degrees in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. MS mechanical with focus on fluids and heat transfer. Spent 8 months doing design and testing of percutaneous aortic heart valve replacement and deployment until the money ran out. Switched gears and have been doing nuclear reactor core thermal hydraulics for nearly 8 years - 5 years doing PWR design for the VIRGINIA class submarines and 3 years doing sodium fast reactor design work.

    Still in college for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee, but have already had my hand in some design work for Late Model race car chassis and suspension components through a race shop in my hometown. Hope to be doing some racing or R&D for big race teams when I graduate.

    Agreed, (at the time of post) they're everywhere here.

    * * *

    Hey everyone, I'm coming here for a little advice. I'm in the first semester of my Junior year (5 of 9) and as always, applying for internships and co-ops. The summer after my freshman year, I worked in reliability at a paper mill. This past summer, I worked reliability at a petrochemical plant. Normally you don't do the same thing twice but there was an important project in my department that I suppose they wanted me for so I got pinned in reliability twice. I felt like the work I did was basically gathering information, verifying information, or copy and paste desk work. It was not very challenging other than meeting deadlines and carrying out decisions properly. The internships are GREAT experience and really help build a resume and I'm glad to have had two in a row starting early.

    I think I've decided after these two summers that this sort of work isn't very fun/challenging/interesting, regardless of how secure the job is, how great the culture is, or how competitive the benefits are. Unfortunately there are countless positions at these plants that I have no experience in, but I don't expect them to blow my socks off. So I am trying to look elsewhere for experience to see what I like but I really have no idea what I want to do. My area (Southeast Texas) is almost exclusively refineries, etc. so they make up the majority of the Engineering Career Fair, but there are one or two engineering firms I may have a shot with.

    Have you ever reached this point in a job, where you didn't see yourself doing it for the rest of your life? Where did you go or what did you do? I'm trying to extend graduation by possibly taking co-ops (internships during the semester) but they're not guaranteed. I want a career that is challenging and requires me to think critically and creatively. I would really like to design/work with things like aircraft, automotive, or defense/military equipment, but these are just ideas. Thanks in advance!!

    Devin
