Looking for suggestions for a carry pistol in 9mm, my mom and sister need some handguns for concealed carry and they're starting to look around some.
My mom currently has a S&W airweight 38 special that she absolutely hates to shoot (Dad bought the gun for her without her shooting one, and he's convinced revolvers are the way to go), and my sister doesn't have a carry gun (She has some experience with revolvers, and limited experience with semi-autos, she wants her carry gun to be semi-auto after talking to her cousin who carries both a revolver and semi).

My sister shot a shield .40 the other day and said it was OK but she wasn't sure if it was right, so I have a friend who is going to let her shoot her LCP 380 when she gets a free day and we will see how that feels to her.

Budget is ~$450 for each gun.

Maybe check out the glock 26? I is a sub compact double stack 9mm. I loved shooting the one a friend of mine has. Or g19 if you want something a little larger

My EDC is a Kahr CW9. Love it, slim nice package. no safety (unless they changed it, have had it for 5 years +/-) long pull DA trigger. right in your price range I think

LOL at the whole "give a female a J-frame" thought process. Those things are L-O-U-D. If I only had a nickel for every time a gun store salesman recommended one to a first time female gun buyer...

Tell her the ground rules - no .380's. 9mm Parabellum and up, no tiny back-up guns, no derringers, etc. If she can hit with a compact gun (go try a rental gun at a local range), then take a look at the Shield, or the new Glock 43. Then hand her a slightly larger Glock 19 and let her try it.

    Good luck.

Since the conversation is about CC 9mm I'll chime in. I have the Glock 43. It's about the same size as the G42 .380, and thinner than the G26, double stack 9mm. I do love the G26 and G19 also but that's another story. It's Glocks new single stack 9mm. Cost is $499 at Academy Sports here in KC. It is a good $150-$100 more than the Shield, which is a great gun. But I am a Glock person.

Shield is a little taller than the G43, but it also holds another round, plus has an extended mag available. And it's about 1/3 less expensive.

If the shield is too big, look at Kahr's CM9. Same specs as the G43 basically.

Kahr CM9 is a great gun also. I really enjoy shooting the Ruger SR9c. It's an excellent CCW. Not a pocket pistol but similar to the Shield. And you can pick one up for around $400ish. A gun that's not a CCW but a great shooter is the Beretta 92FS 9mm. So much fun to shoot.

This is the BS thread so I don't feel I'm getting off topic to much. As for the earlier guy looking for a CCW just go to a gun range and they'll usually let you rent a huge variety. I'm partial to 9mm. But that's just me. I'm also prefer Glock. A person could argue with me about any gun being better and show me all the stats on why it's better. But I'll still say a Glock is better.

As for ammo, .40, .380. 9mm, 10mm, .22, .45, 357, all are fun to shoot. I won't say no to shooting any caliber or any gun and I won't talk sh** on anyone else gun. If your CCW is a .380 or even .22, good. At least you're carrying something. And, can I shoot it please? ;)

You could also try some of the ultralight Hornady ammo (pink tip) basically marketed to ladies who don't want to shoot their 38s, lol. Supposed to be pussycat recoil. I just mowed, mulched and trimmed hedges for three hours with my 637 airweight in my pocket. Can't break 'em.

    I need some opinions

I have a Gen2 Glock 17. I've tried several different types of ammo, and 3 different mags of varying age. Every 3rd or 4th shot, the gun fails to eject the spent round, like not even an attempt. The slide locks back, the spent case is still fully in the chamber, and the next round in the mag is almost fully seated in the mag still. Should I replace the extractor, pin, and spring or something else?

Sounds like the extractor to me if the brass doesn't move.

Does your department have an armorer that you could take it to? It might just need detail cleaned.

I ordered a new extractor, spring, and plunger etc and gonna take it to one of the guys who is an armorer...figure it can't hurt to throw new ones in and he's gonna check it over good too for me

Ruled out the mags...1 was the original from 1990, 1 was of unknown age but it's been in my safe for awhile, and 1 was new out of the package as of this morning and i put the first rounds in it today

Have you been shooting steel-cased ammo? The lacquer sealant has been known to gum up chambers, causing FTE's.
Check your brass for any evidence of a bur in the chamber as well.

Otherwise, a good scrubbing, and those replacement parts would be my next step.
