    Can't big companies just buy a ton of carbon credits to offset the carbon tax? I wonder how or if they will change that.

    BTW Carbon credits are a scam. A good chunk of them comes from farm land that would be in production trapping carbon whether or not companies are paying for the credits.

    What I don't understand is how the coal industry doesn't even get 1% of the media scrutiny that the oil sands get when coal produces at least as much if not more carbon emissions.

    You are right. My point is though that with the way the current carbon tax and carbon credit systems are setup there are probably better ways to tax excessive emissions. It's been a few years since I took environmental economics though so maybe things have improved.

    Looks like the people showed up to support the new boss. All hail our comrade Premier! Those who didn't show up or cheer loud enough you will be sent to Grande Prairie :p.

    More seriously, it'll be interesting to see what happens with so many cabinet members having no experience in the fields they now oversee. I'm not worried about Finance, Education, or Healthcare, but Agriculture and Energy will have a tough go of it at first.

    It's also interesting to see that only one cabinet member came from south of Calgary. I hope they don't forget about us down here.

    I'm signed up on a rate plan for $0.065. There are commercial customers who have there pivot irrigation systems and climate controlled potato storages locked in closer to $0.05. I think the spot price is just under $0.08 but I don't know that for sure.

    What is brutal is the transmission fees. I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere else but the actual power is only about a third of my bill. The rest is charges for system improvements, they are building DC lines to up north, and transmission charges. So even if power was nearly free I'd still have to pay something like $55 a month just to be hooked up.
