Few quick questions about X-Runner

    Hey all!

    Just a few things i want to clarify for myself...

    Just got an 06 X-Runner and I'm liking it!

    1) It's going to need snow tires. wondering what size wheels i can go down to from the 18's (i know 5x114.3 bolt pattern but what size can i go? 17?)

    2) good recommendations for snow tires? 235 width goodyear all terrain maybe? it's rwd so this is crucial to me.

    3)That said, how many lbs of sand do you guys usually use?

    4) 91-93 octane needed? im fine with this not worried about the price just wanna make sure i'm doing this right, most research yields mixed results

    5) redline seems really low at 5500. is there a limiter and what is safe to rev to on a stock valvetrain? luckily the power/torque all seems to be down low but it doesn't feel like i'm really winding it up at 5500 rpms haha.

    I think 91 octane might be my best bet.

    Mine pings with 87 as well. Keep it at 91. Costs a bit more but I'd rather treat my girl right.

    87 is fine
    get real snow tires, 4 of them, skinnier is better. don't go with AT tires, dedicated snows are superior to any AT in snow
    I'd keep probably 50-100lbs on sand back there

    Thanks for the reply. I filled her up with 91, its only a two buck difference for fillup no big deal

    I agree skinny snow tires trump all terrains. I suppose i should research on 16 or 17 inch wheels to get for the tires :)

    I don't think you'll have any problems going down to a 16 or 17" wheel if you have the stock front brakes. You may have problems if your truck has upgraded to a BBK (big brake kit) with larger rotors & calipers.

    TRD SC, TRD CAI (Gen 1), Full URD Spec-U Exhaust, UCON EMS, , URD Lightweight Steel Flywheel, URD Stage 3, URD Trac Bar, OEM Oil Cooler, Detroit Tru-Trac, Truxedo Titanium Cover, 76mm Throttle Body, XII Performance drop, QA1 Rear Shocks, 4x4 Rear Leaf Springs.
    Try picking up some RAV4 rims and put a good set of snow tires on them. I ran Dunlop winter tires for 6 winters (approx 80,000kms) before I had to replace them. They were excellent in snow and ice and were reasonably priced. The only tires that I have seen that have been better have been Bridgestone Blizzaks but they are pricey. I put a bit more sand in the back than most, but it was worth it for the added security of staying on the road, it ended up being around 250lbs centered over the axle.

    As for gas, go with 91 octane.

    thanks for the reply guys.

    so i've definately revved it out to 7000 rpms plenty of times now lmao. its a blast doing donuts in parking lots sometimes ;) still runs great we'll see if it lasts; ill check valve clearance eventually.

    guess im in the market for snow wheels. rav4 wheels sounds like a good idea since those are probably skinnier
