So I have my brand new Taco and want make the frame as bulletproof as possible. I'm not a mechanic and do not have a garage or lift to do major work.

Just wondering what the best way to prep my frame for the future.....do I have to sand off everything and do a POR 15 treatment? Can I just clean it off really good and put a coat of some Rustoleum? Is there a special paint I can just paint on top of the new frame? I've read for about 2 hours and haven't found anything about protecting brand new frames - but I'm sure there's a way if I am thinking about it.

    Appreciate any help!

    Thanks,
    Dan

I'm in the same boat as you. I got a 2015, and I don't want to find out the hard way that Toyota hasn't solved the rust problem yet.

At a minimum, I'm thinking about a treatment of Fluid Film each Fall in preparation for the Michigan winters.

I think POR-15 is a great idea, and I'm under the impression that stuff will go on right over the current finish on the frame. It'll hold up much better than Rustoleum.

My dealer tried to sell me a rust treatment. I wonder what they are using on new frames?

thanks Taco - I've seen that. Will take the rest of the year to read all of it....:annoyed:....maybe I just need to get started. I was just hoping somebody with body/frame experience could give me an idea of what I could easily spray on for now to prevent/protect as my frame is still brand new.

FLUID FILM. 2-3 cans will about cover your undercarraige. Do it two times a year. I live in the Midwest where road salt is spread. I have no undercarriage rust yet on my 13.

Thanks George-I'm going to research linseed. How do you apply, and can linseed touch/go on everything under the taco?

Reading pretty hood reviews on fluid film, but i really don't want to clean and respray every year. I'm looking for a one time coating to seal/protect.....if it exists.

So my dealer quoted me $299 for Auto Armor ECP. That's what the Toyota dealer is now coating all the frames with. They told me with this they guarantee the frame for seven years, then every three after that i have to re-coat to keep up the guarantee forever...

Honestly If you have new truck. Simply ..
Find Valspar Tractor and Implement Primer and Enamel paint.
Make sure your frame is clean and hit first with primer, than with enamel
It will last much longer than crappy paint Toyota put on that thing.

It will also last longer than POR-15

Perfect-this is more what I'm looking to do. Still reading and debating-so many people go with an oil/wax base protectant.

The problem is that Toyota uses cheap powder painting that is absolute crap... Once you put wax or anything like that paint will not stick to it. So with brand new truck I would try painting it. This paint is cheaper than POR15 so you can pour a gallon inside the frame to protect all the water ways in there.
If you pour paint inside make sure you have trays setup all underneath or put some cheap tarp to catch over spill.

Well I spoke with Auto Armor ECP on the phone today. They told me if I get my frame coated it will be covered by a lifetime warranty and Auto Armor is Nation Wide! Checkered Flag Toyota in Virginia Beach quoted me $299......

Lifetime frame warranty on my frame sounds pretty good to me! I don't care if they wipe dog shit on my frame as long as they are giving me a lifetime warranty!

Lifetime warranty is the way to go for that price. Sounds good. I would still apply some Formula 3000 or Fluid Film every year in case that company goes tits up or finds a loop hole when your frame rots.
