forgive me TW I have sinned against Toyota !!!

well im converting to all power window, lock, and mirrors, from all manual window, lock, and mirrors, and I bought everything in the door including the complete door wiring harnesses from salvage yards.

once I had all the parts in hand I realized the big issue is, there is no wiring harness plug to plug the door wiring harnesses into and every one of these trucks has like 8 different numbered wiring harness with different options of plug configurations and styles so its not just as easy as swapping in any random wiring harness from another truck with the same features you want to add, unless you want to risk things not having plugs for them or having the wrong plugs. it seams like every truck has a unique wiring harness unlike others so finding just the right match of truck build sheet and options is extremely rare. no matter how I looked at it I saw I would be cutting and splicing wires no matter what I do so it made no sense to mess with my trucks wiring at all and instead I should just add the few wires I need to power and control the doors.

so yes I sinned today and I went to the salvage yard and there were no tacomas there (im actually very glad of this because i would have been very sad and guilt ridden to have cut up a Tacoma wiring harness) so I cut off the plugs from the dash wiring harness for the door power connectors from 2 different camry and one corolla so now I have the right type of plug connectors and enough wire color assortment to create a matching color coded female plug for both of my doors wiring harness.

so now I just need to run the correct size and color wires going across the dashboard and splice them to the dash plugs I will create. I am in effect, making a separate dash door power wiring harness to control both doors all in Toyota oem factory plugs.

I feel bad I ruined the wiring harness for 3 Toyotas but then it was a corolla and two camry so I wont loose and sleep over those but yes I do still feel bad, but what ya gonna do? I had to have the correct plug connections to make this work.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I thought this was going to be one of those "Sold my Tacoma, bought a Dodge, opinions?" threads.

Your good some sacrifices are needed at times .

I thought you were going to say you swapped all the parts in to make the windows and door locks.

From one of those J word vehicles which there would be no forgiveness !!!

well crud !!! turns out none of those plugs will help me because I cant get the Toyota plugs to release the pins no matter how much I try with those release tool thingy, it just wont come apart so I cut one open to see what its like and it appears to be a one time lock in thing that doesn't have any release catch to press.

so now it was all a wasted effort to go get those plugs and now I will have to cut the factory plugs off of the oem door wiring harnesses and put aftermarket male/female plugs for the two connectors on each side.

so I wasted a whole day driving 200 miles to destroy 3 Toyota wiring harnesses for no reason at all and I will have to redo it from scratch anyway :(

then I ordered the new plugs and only after, I noticed its coming from hong kong and will take 4 weeks to arrive :frusty:

so now I have to wait another month to finish this project

at least while I was searching the salvage yard I was able to find an ignition bezel without clock, glove box light and wire, glove box light switch and wire, and a replacement cigarette lighter for my truck :p

not really, I paid more for that one just so it wasn't from china, that's where all of them are from now.

the few made in America have very limited options on variety and type as well as being nearly $15-$20 each instead of $5-$10 like the vast majority are.

the ones from china are only $2-$3

things might be looking up now, a member here said he has a wiring harness he cut stuff off of and might be able to let me have the wiring circuits for the power to the doors. hopefully that works out.

im trying to cancel the orders for the plugs and wire but so far they haven't replied if its too late to cancel or not for the hong kong plugs but the $50 wire order was canceled.

I heard that. All my kids got roll up windows in their first cars. I was told it wasn't cool. But since daddy was buying and plain jane cars are cheaper....

What year, and which female plug/plugs in particular? I am also attempting a power interior swap.

well year shouldn't matter much except if you are changing the entire dash wiring harness which is a big can of worms by itself I found.

there is no "standard" to the wiring harnesses and there are like a dozen different ones so you have to get one from the EXACT same truck and options as yours had but also with power.

as to the plugs, yes they are in the kick panels on each side that the door wiring plugs into. this is what the power door wiring harness looks like and you need the female ends from a donor dash wiring harness for the big 12 and 10 pin plugs all the way on the left http://www.ebay.com/itm/05-15-Toyot...fits=Model:Tacoma&hash=item3f4d346434&vxp=mtr

I went through car-part.com to get my power door panels ($200 for both) and the guy threw in both power mirror inside covers and both complete door wiring harnesses for free but be sure to specify its not to be cut as some lazy jacklegs cut them off at the door boot instead of puling the kick panel off and unplugging them. the switches and switch plates that fit into the door panels are sold as separate items and I got both sides of those for $100.

I then bought aftermarket replacement power mirrors http://www.ebay.com/itm/310697557585?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

and window regulators with motors for it
