The bearing is definitely going bad ,it sounds terrible, like im afraid to even drive it, I cans move the cv axle up and down about half an inch either way. so ill be doing the ecgs bushing and new cv axles tbis weekend if they ship in time. anyone know if I can just pull the old bearing with a slide hammer? That's how I pulled the axle bearings and races on my old f 150??

Just placed my order for the ECGS bushing, removal tool and seal. I m gonna do the passenger side cv axle too even though they're only about a year old. Do I need to replace left and right cvs at the same time or can I just replace the driver side?

You can just replace one at a time. I would just replace whatever is wrong.

when i tore my cv boot, i ended up just replacing that axle with an Autozone one. then after that i ended up just rebooting the OEM axle and putting it back. lol

I missed the part about him thinking he was hearing bearing noise. I thought we were dealing with a simple leak after oil change situation.

And the part about oil leaking down and not up is responsive to all of the posts about the leak possibly coming from the drain bolt that is actually lower than the pinion seal. It's obviously coming from the area of the pinion shaft/seal.

Pinion seal? Dude the pinion seal is no where near that oil leak. The pinion seal is pretty much in line with the steering rack, which is well behind where the cv's plug in. If it was the pinion seal, you'd find more oil on the steering rack than anything.

I'd bet my next pay check that the needle bearing let go, and one of the needles got caught up in the seal. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for pictures of the needle bearing when it comes out. My old one had 3-4 needles missing resulting in the axle (cv) being able to move 3/16-1/4" in any direction.

this leak literally has nothing to do with the pinion

I have seen seals develop a leak after changing oil from standard oil to synthetic oil (high mileage vehicle). I was thinking that might have been what was going on here, but he mentioned a lot of movement in the bearings, so I'm sure replacing the bearings & seal will fix it the correct way.
