I think the power is just about right for the type of truck that it is. I like it a lot. This is my second (2nd Gen) Taco. I do not drive it like a sports car. I also had a 2010 Tundra between Tacomas and even that was not a race truck but had good torque for towing.

If I want to go fast I will drive my Stingray.

I noticed a difference in acceleration going from my '14 DCSB TRD Sport to a '15 DCSB TRD Sport 4x4. I have been assuming it's because I went to a 4x4. I even asked the service dept after I had bought it if there was a difference, they said there shouldn't be a difference.

I don't jam on the gas at a light, but every now and then I have to do so. The '14 would take off, at what is to be expected from the truck. But, the '15 seems to have a slower reaction time and then accelerates slowly and for a very short period before kicking in.

It reminds me of our '10 Subaru Outback PZEV acceleration. The vehicle is designed to not allow the immediate acceleration at a light to assist with fuel economy. You punch the gas and it will not allow you to take off quickly.

I didn't want to be the one to say it and summon the people to say you're nuts and throwing money away.

Fact is, until 2007 the manual said to use 91 or better octane and the engine has not changed. It's also quoted as making 12 more lb-ft of torque 300 RPM lower on 91 octane (see TRD's website).

The place I notice the biggest difference is on hills on the highway. On 87 octane it downshifts to maintain the same speed on the same hills. On 93 it stays in 5th and purrs along.

My 2010 4.0 is not slow if I press the accelerator hard and consistently. However, it feels very slow for normal driving in city traffic. I think the it's the transmission, especially transition from 1st to 2nd gear, very slow to get out of 1st. I am not sure why Toyota tuned it that way, almost like for towing, not to mention bad for fuel mileage, too.

What do you expect from a Tacoma? If it makes you feel better I smoked my buddy with a stock 5.3 Z71 silvy with my truck. I have the 4.0 and 285's. These little trucks are not slow compared to what's out there. Unless you're comparing to sports cars.

Ya know... if you push the pedal far enough straight off the line, these trucks will roar pretty good. and they accelerate at what I would consider to be a pretty good rate considering it's a TRUCK. I don't do it often just because I think it's not good for it, but my 14 will get up and go if I smash the pedal. for those that haven't yet, try it. I think you'd be impressed.

once in awhile I'll do it just for fun- and it reminds me just how much power is actually in there. but yeah, it's geared for doing work.

    Howdy,
we still have six more horsepower than a 57 Chevy power pack car had. With the power pack heads, dual exhaust, and a 4 barrel carb they were rated at 230 h.p, I am pleased with my little 236 h.p. truck!!!!!! Have a goodun!!!!!

Yea I agree. If you really punch it off the line, you'll hit highway speeds pretty quick.

I raced a V6 challenger, with an aftermarket exhaust, off of a stoplight. It was neck and neck and I was going about 85% throttle. He was punching it too. His exhaust was screaming.

I thought the same thing coming from a V8 F150 at first. But now that I've had my Tacoma for a while I'm actually pretty happy with the power that the 4.0 has
