Yes, mine too... the taller tire makes the speedometer correct (it is intentionally reading fast from the factory). However, the odometer (I learned the past years) is on a different gear and reads correctly with the stock tire, but reads slow (~2.5%) with the 1" taller tires.

20 mpg yesterday on the highway avr speed 70 mph. The tachometer was usually just a hair over 2,000 rpm.

Great... matches my best recorded mpg. What type of gasoline (brand, octane, ethanol % if known) was in the tank?

I calculate it the old fashioned way... Miles driven on the tank divided by amount of fuel pumped back in. I generally drive like a grandpa, but I enjoy the occasional full throttle moment. And yes, I drive a 2013 4.0 V6 4x4 DCSB.

I use the same method for calculation. I get ~14 mpg driving just in the city (I live less than 10 minutes from work). On highway only driving I get 17-18 mpg. These are consistent numbers for me since purchasing the truck last November. This is calculation based on the numbers my trip meter gives me. I have not checked to see how far off it is compared to a gps reading although I should. The truck is generally driven with an unloaded or very lightly loaded bed and I have BFG KO2 265/75/16 Load Range E. I did have P rated Cooper ATP tires for a short period of time and those were +1 to 2 mpg difference.

Maybe we on the west coast just have the worst gasoline. Your MPGs are on par with mine, we run the same size tires, and only three times in the past 5 years did I record a figure higher than 18 mpg, and never over 20 mpg (whole numbers).

Your Taco is built for torque to pull stuff. The Civic is built for cruising. The engines alone make a big difference in mileage, let alone gear ratios, transmissions, tires, etc. It's like comparing a runner to a body builder.

I think you're misunderstanding his point. Everyone expects the Honda to get better fuel mileage. The point is that his Honda gets much better mileage on the highway than city, as expected. His Tacoma is getting better fuel mileage in city traffic than on the highway. That is odd. I suspect aerodynamics and speed are the factors. A vehicle with poor aerodynamics will do OK on fuel mileage as long as the speed is moderate. The faster you go, the more aerodynamics becomes a factor.

If I keep the speed on my truck around 70-75 I'll get right at 20 mpg on long road trips. On trips where I have run 75-80mph+ as much as possible I drop to around 18mpg. Which is not much more than the 16-17mpg I get in normal everyday driving.

Nothing much. I haven't been bitten by the mod bug. A little plasti dip. And a set of Wet Okole seat covers with gun pouch.
I haven't figured it, but I get about 320 miles out of a tank.

This is exactly what I meant. I was surprised that I was getting about 19 mpg around the city (including some freeway driving) and got similar numbers on highway trips. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about my mpg, I just thought the numbers were strange compared to other vehicles I have driven.

I have to stop every 100 miles or so to drain gas out. Mine is actually making gas as I drive.

Considering the truck has a 21 gallon tank you would be getting roughly 15.23mpg.

I get it. Still much more than aerodynamics involved. Most sedans specifically have overdrive that engages as well. As you noted the Tacoma site to us RPMs at certain speeds can have incredible differences in MPG depending on what speed you set. At 75mph for example min runs around 2,300rpm. The difference from 70mph to 80mph is fairly significant. I'd imagine the Civic does not see such a jump in fuel use that the Taco does at those speeds. This has to do with it being much more efficient granted, but also because of gearing differences.

Fuel use is all about RPMs. If you geared the truck very differently so that it ran at 75mph at lower RPMs it would get better mileage - but would have less torque.

Aerodynamics has it's impact. But I think other factors, considering the speeds, are influencing things more than aerodynamics.

In my own musings I've noticed the truck runs very low RPMs at 55mph. It wasn't geared to be efficient at 75. Where as I'm betting the Civic was.

That's incredible. Is it down hill both ways? LoL I one got 21.5mpg but that was limited to the first 5 gallons in the tank. Was very odd.

Nope! Generally flat and did it go down after the first 5 gallons?
