I love Toyota but am so disappointed in the 17 MPG I get driving around So. California. It has been a while since I checked the mileage and I now have 9,300 miles in 19 months of ownership. I purchased the 4 cylinder specifically to get better gas mileage. Shall I check the mileage per gallon again? What modifications should I make to improve the mileage? My next visit to Toyota for maintenance isn't until November 15th. That will be near the end of the 2 year warranty expiration and I should have about 10,000 miles on it by then. After this next and last free maintenance, I will probably switch to a mechanic I trust that services our 09 Honda Accord and 07 Honda Civic. Any help here will be appreciated. I am not a mechanic of autos, but a retired Nuclear Drain Surgeon. (San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station Plumber) yes and I know that payday is on Friday and I don't bite my nails. You can call me a friend of Plumbers but not a Plumber's Friend.

Thanks for putting up with me....

I got a 4 cylinder automatic and I'm clearing 20.5 mpg. I'm running the stock street tire on it because of heavy driving and I'm not heavy on the pedal. Are you running some nice aggressive tires? If so, they give you a better look but will drag your mpg.
