This is a last minute trip a couple of the 4runner guys put together this last weekend. I have to work Friday, so I'll probably just head up on Sat morning and meet up at the trail head.

    When:
    6/6/15 - 6/8/15 (Friday - Sunday)
We'll be running the trail on Saturday 9-9:30AM. Still working out the details. Folks are welcome to come Friday or Saturday to camp. Then we'll be headed home Sunday.

Where: Slick Rock trail, Stanislaus National Forrest
    Trailhead: 38° 28' 07.5" N 120° 00' 40.2" W
    [IMG]
We'll be running the trail from the North to South, then a fire road will spit us back on HWY 4. We'll set up camp right after the second marker from the top. In fact, here are the directions to the trailhead, verbatim from the Backroads book:

    Quote:
To Get There: Take Hwy. 4 to Lake Alpine north of Bear Valley. Turn right at west end of lake following signs to Lake Alpine C.G. Head South, staying to the right as roads branch left. When the bike trail goes right, you go left. Bear right at blue cabin then right again at private drive. Follow narrow road to well-marked trailhead 0.7 miles from Hwy.4.

And then just follow the trail a little, and you'll find us along the trail (NO FEES)
    Click for full-size image (1024 x 680)

Required: 4x4, decent AT tires, sliders
Recommended: skids + aftermarket bumpers, locker, diff breather mod, recovery gear (winch, hi-lift), CB or FRS radio

Should be a fun trip and like always the weather is being a bit temperamental at this point. Supposed to rain, but we will monitor it throughout the week. Shows the same as a couple of weekends ago and it only ended up sprinkling for a 30 min.

The trail isn't overly difficult and the hardest part at the end can be bypassed. What is your lift and tire specs? Also I just worry about your nfab steps catching on some rocks. Maybe some of the 2nd gen guys can chime in as they will understand the wheel base and what some of the spots to watch out for.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
You can't by pass the end completely last year guys had more trouble with the rocks before the hard line remember the slickrock mafia go's out there every year to try and make that spot harder so it can change. @Brizzlerice those steps will be beat to hell at the end of the trail you would be better off just taking them off.

Good to know Jerry, it's been a couple years since I've been there and it wasn't bad to go up on the left before.

Jason, I figured most of the Moab guys would pass, but figured this would be a good trip for the non-Moab guys to work out some things before Eagle Lake.

There is two large rocks right in the middle of the trail now well at least last year and every truck dragged sliders across them even me. To me the trail is not doable without sliders unless you want body damage.

Thanks for the update guys... I would be taking the steps off my truck before I went up... I believe it's a 2.25" leveling kit in front and 1.5" rear steel blocks in the rear. On 31x12.5r15

Yeah you would most likely get some damage with 31's and no sliders.

You will DAMAGE your truck. Just ran this trail this past Saturday. I have bigger tires, F+R locker and I did not take my 80 because no slider. Went with 2 FZJ80 and 2 FJC.

Video from trail. Excuse my goofiness and laughter, lol.
