Hey guys I need some advice, my power steering randomly sprung a leak and sprays all the fluid out when the wheels are turned. I located the leak and it is coming from where a metal pipe/ hose connects to the power steering rack, and it only sprays out on left turns. I have done some research myself but can't find anyone who's had this problem. I tightened the nut where the pipe connects and it didn't fix it so I'm thinking a seal or O-ring is blown where it connects. Does anyone know what might be wrong and if replacing the pipe/ seal will fix it?

My truck is out of commission until I get this fixed so any input is appreciated. (2009 TRD OR)

Here is where its spraying fluid:

I think others have had these leaks before and the only options are get a new rack from Toyota that comes with this pipe. Or take it to a hydraulics shop and have them make a custom hose to replace the pipe.

So you're saying that because a small connection pipe on the rack is leaking I need a whole new steering rack? could you post a link to support?

Is your fluid milky too or just the light? Check thd parts diagrams on camelback or any other toyota parts websites and see if it's available, if not then Jimmy is correct.

I think the milky look is a bunch of tiny bubbles, Also after taking a second look at the connection. It is almost like a pipe bushing that slides along the tube. I felt all around the threads and didn't feel any chips or anything. Maybe I'll just go ahead and replace the O-ring anyways? it might have a crack when compressed or something

I didn't say the "Only Option" was to replace the Steering Rack. You could get a Hydraulic Shop to make a custom high pressure hose for the rack.

That does look like the same exact problem I'm having, I can't believe Toyota doesn't make the line by itself. I did notice it would stop leaking if I applied pressure at a certain angle so maybe the flare does need to be re-angled. Do you have any idea how much it'd cost to just have a shop make a new line? Don't really want to go through all the trouble of getting/ installing a new rack over this little connection

Not sure about the cost, but I feel that it is considerably less than a power steering rack.

Dropped it off at my buddies house today, last thing I thought about before a new pipe is maybe the bushing on the tube needs replacing. It screwed in inconsistently (easy for half a turn, hard for half a turn). He's a certified mechanic so I trust he'll be able to figure it out even if it just needs a whole new rack :(

Mechanic said there "could be" a crack where the connection is welded onto the steering rack, but he isn't sure and is still doing research. The logic in me asks why is it leaking from the hose and not the crack if there is one? Also if it is in fact a crack couldn't it just be rewelded?

Ordered a new steering rack, thought about having a tube custom made but no mechanic I had look at it knew for sure if it would work so I just decided to go ahead and replace the rack. Toyota certified mechanic recommended Maval brand so that's what I got

Did you end up having to remove your AC compressor?
