My bud let me drive his VW TDi for day...that thing is a hoot to drive, kept on thinking to myself...now why can't we have a nice torquey diesel in the Tacoma!? I know they said it will be too expensive...however they choose how to package it. You could spec a bare bones model to keep the price point low.

Look at the Tacoma B-Max package. I am finding AC 4WD's anywhere from $22-25K on dealer lots, toss in a diesel option for a $4-5K upcharge...still a good deal.

This is the package I want, just don't want the animec 4 banger. http://www.rhtoyota.com/new/Toyota/...altimore-5b30c6920a0a0064453943661d07a4a2.htm

Factory specs. but now upon looking it looks like only European and Japanese companies doing the limiters. I did not own a lot of American Cars...

I think there is some misunderstanding here. All I said is that I would of liked a higher HP number because it would suggest a flatter torque curve. That 180 HP figure points to a narrower torque band than on the V6 gasoline engine that both will be hooked up to a 6 speed automatic. At the end of the day the buyer is going to choose the "peppy" feeling V6 over the diesel, simply because that's not a good engine and transmission combination if the engine doesn't have 250 ft*lbs of torque at all times to draw on.

Limiters are installed according the tires and national regulations IIRC. A vehicle can be equipped with 160 KPH rated tires and not be speed governed.

I think the I-4 Duramax and I-4 Cummins Frontier will feel more "peppy" than the comparable V6. Going off of my past experiences of driving different diesel vehicles, they will be more than capable. Soon we will get to try them out. At least GM and Nissan have the stones to make them unlike Toyota.

Is Nissan bringing an I4 Diesel Cummins Frontier to the market? I thought they tested it in the Frontier but I never heard of them going to production with it.

The I4 Cummins is a noisy SOB. Most guys who do the swap end up displeased.

I thought that that was a done deal, a 5.0L Cummins Titan and I-4 Cummins Frontier. I could be wrong. I dunno what engine they're swapping in, probably some old turds from flipped 1998 mail vans. I know that a new Isuzu 3.0L I-4 in the Ecomax NPR and Mitsubishi 3.0L I-4 in the Fuso run very nicely. When driving and idling with cabs flipped forward.

The 5.0L Cummins is going in the Titan XD. That's a done deal. Ram passed on that engine because it couldn't get the fuel economy numbers they wanted. I expect the Titan XD will be marketed as a heavy half ton. Something for someone who really only needs a half ton but has the ego of someone who would drive a F250 thrown 8" in the air just for show.

The Frontier Diesel was a concept truck, but nothing has been released that I see that confirms a Diesel Frontier going into production at any time.

It could be the ultimate D-bag truck. Dude does a block lift, throws on some rockstar wheels and Toyo MT's from Les schwab, an affliction and "socal til I die" decal , Instagram pics, and it's ready to roll.

One can never have too many light bars.
Sounds like the ultimate mall crawler. Add two 12 inch overkill subs to piss off everyone in a 200 foot radius and you got yourself a winner.

My main concern is torque. Quite possible torque will even go down because of better transmission and lighter weight.

    Or....

    http://compactpowerrents.com/

A-holes from Home Depot won't rent me tools anymore because I am under towing capacity..
They used to have smaller trailers and excavators but now its all 10 000 lb.
So it would be nice to have Titan, pick tools when I want them drop them when I want them.

I meant the Colorado is a 4000 lbs freight train. That Nissan XD will be well over 5K lbs. Actually I will pretty much guarantee it'll be the heaviest curb weight 1/2 ton on the market because of that 5.0 L up front and the fact that Nissan only made minimal changes to the frame which uses one of the lowest ratios of high strength steel on the market after GM, Ford, and Dodge shed pounds from the frame by using higher strength lighter alloys.

Yeah, any of the full sized trucks will do that for you. Though the diesel will be better over long distances with weight behind it Nissan hasn't given us mpg figures yet. If Ram didn't want it I'm guessing 20-24 mpg with the Nissan XD on paper. At the lower end of that it's not worth it for the extra fuel cost when you are just driving it around town.

Then again if you have to have Diesel and believe it will last longer there is value to you in that.

I was hoping for 200-220 hp and tq figures in the 360 range, what I had in mind for "mildly less powerful."

Could be, but look where "High Strength" steel got us. My truck is getting new frame... In the meantime old fashion Land Cruiser frame under my LC is still there looking good.
Not sure about MPG but it can not be any worse than 2016 Tacoma towing.
I am ready to go get some more old fashioned setup. New crap so far has been a non stop headache.

I don't need that much torque that is for sure, though it would be nice to have it available in the low rpm range...and that on top of mpg around the 30 mpg range. Be able to haul a Four Wheel Camper like it isn't even there. Be a nice strong compact package.

VW TDi's seem to have it at the right power to weight ratio.

Should just drop my existing (long been paid for) truck off at Diesel Toys...they can do a diesel swap for the money I want to spend (on a new one), plus don't have to deal with the bullshit DEF system when it goes tits up.

Maybe not on USDM Japanese vehicles either.

I know H6 Outbacks were limited to 140 MPH through 2009 and the new ones are slightly higher than that.

Don't like cars. I have a SUV and my Tacoma...tell you the truth...don't care for the SUV, it is mostly useless for hauling stuff without screwing up the interior. Cars are even more useless. Why spend money on something that only does one thing? I am truck person through and through, so why not have it do it all? Decent power, mileage, and can haul loads.

Not too concerned with the DD mileage both my vehicles get 20 hwy, I am good with that, 28-30 with a small diesel would be even better. More concerned with the long trips I take, extra mpg would be nice. Fullsize truck I would be lucky to get 15 mpg, loaded down, 10-12 is more like it. My buddy's with the F150 Ecoboost, fetches 14 city, 10 towing. No "Eco" with the EcoBoost. ;)

Midsize with a diesel could get 23-25 mpg, loaded down...RCSB Ram "could" work, but I refuse to lay my money down a Chrysler product.

Toyota makes exactly what I want just not here, 2000# payload, efficient torquey diesel, in a small package.

You won't see this in NA until gas hits $7/US gallon.
