Did you use the glossifier? How many cans per wheel? Did you take your wheel weights off?

So i plastidipped my trd OR wheels this past weekend. Removed wheels, worked on a table to clean and spray. Did about 7-8 coats, plus 2 glossifier for UV. Overall came out pretty good. Not 100% pleased though. As i was peeling the overspray off the tire, the dip on the lip where the wheel weights clamp on lifted a bit as well. I sprayed one more lock coat around this area and will see what happens. Love the black wheel look on the mgm. I dont feel confident that it wont peel off the lip in the future. Time will tell. Starting to look at black aftermarket wheels Lol. Anyone ever have this issue? Had my truck in for service over the weekend and had them rebalance and put weights on the inside.

Edit---I came home from work today and peeled it all off. It wasnt gonna last and was eating at me for 2 days.

Had it on my front badge before colormatch and it was some real tough stuff!

Just a few expensive & DIY things...

Looking at doing Anthracite as well, where did you find your paint?
Have any photos of other pieces you painted?
I assume you used the gloss and not matte.

Wonder if the true AL metalizer would work.

Never had any issues with mine. I have only had to respray my wheels once bc I thrashed them on a curb. Held up fine though

When dipping wheels put a thick coat of Armour all on the tires, make sure not to get any on the rim. After drying drive around the block a couple times and the over spray will peel right off. Mine came off in one piece:thumbsup:

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Just plasti dipped the skid plate today. Pretty happy with the results bit for anyone thinking of doing it, put it up on a lift or ramps to install when done. I didn't and it was a pain in the ass for a 6'4" 230 pound guy laying in the driveway doing it. Rear bumper is next!!!

I did mine last summer, happy with results and it looked good. Not anymore, winter tore the plasti off. I'm thinking powder coat or stainless

It for sure lasts! I'm gonna redo mine with glossifier so they look a little nicer, last longer, and are easier to clean. Prep is to wash them as well as you can and remove and car wash type stuff

Dippin' Wheels.....again......anyone used the matte black for the base, 4-5 coats, and a coat of graphite metalizer as a top coat? I would also spray a couple coats of glossifier for UV protection, or maybe satin-izer for not so glossy of a look

Should be fine, I got wax on some of mine which stuck on because I didn't remove it fast enough. Other than that, they came out good.

Ok - have now spent 45 minutes and am only 45 pages into this thread...Need to get back to actual work but still haven't answered my original question for coming to this thread...

Has anyone derp'd the insert of the hood scoop? My Taco is SSM and the insert is a little faded and looks bad. I was thinking of dipping it black.

I also like the idea of dipping the valence(also black). Unsure on the wheels and emblems, I like the chrome look. I think I would only do the hood scoop insert and valence. Maybe some stuff in the interior too...

Yes, tons of people have use plasti-dip on the scoop insert and the valence. Make sure you do multiple coats on the valence unless you want it to chip from rocks and debris like mine did. Ended up just permanently painting mine with Krylon fusion for plastic.

I've seen a lot of pics of the valence and they look great. I haven't seen many of the scoop insert. I found 1 guy who had a black one on SSM but I don't think it was plastidipped and his pics were of closeups of the scoop so I couldn't get a good idea of the whole truck look. Google hasn't been helpful as it only finds the aforementioned pics. I guess I'll pick up on page 45 and keep scrolling through and hope I find some in here somewhere...

How many coats can you get out of a can for something like the valence or the hood scoop insert? Seem like small surface area. Planning a trip to Lowes...

Go ahead and dip it. If you don't like it peel it off.

Depends on what your dipping. Just remember more coats are better. When I did my rims I used a full can per rim.

I just checked at Lowes. They didn't have black spray. Only black was actually for dipping, like dangle on a string and tea bag it a few times. I did read one of the spray cans and it says good for 5sq ft. I'll probably need a few for whatever I end up derp'n!
