Does Toyota have an official tailgate weight carrying capacity? I'll be loading a motorcycle and the rear wheel will have to be placed on the tail gate.

Short bed or long will be decided by Toyota Canada, not me. Gen 2 4x4 and automatic is only available in long bed. The 4x4 short bed is only available with a manual transmission.

Doesn't matter if you put a flat bed on it.

I carried a 98 Yamaha Grizzly 600 in the 06 DCSB without issue. Im sure the 2016 will be able to handle a bike. I'd stick my brother's Honda Valkyrie in a trailer just to be safe though, lol.

And I'd take a short bed again, clearly DCLB's are way too difficult to drive day to day.

It's a 510 lbs bike, so maybe about 250 lbs on the tail gate, that's not too much?

Is the DCLB that much more difficult to maneuver than the short bed?

No problem with your post OP. In fact it's refreshing that someone that's actually going to buy one is posting something Gen3 he would like others' opinions on rather than having to read only troll posts about shit that's been beat to death & won't change no matter how much it's bitched about (no diesel, the front end astetics, etc etc).

To your question... For me, if I go the Tacoma route it willl definitely be the short bed route. If someone like Toyota would come out with something closer to the old compact trucks again I'd buy it in a heartbeat. They're not going to do that so I will go with the next best thing I can get in a 4-door config, Gen3 Tacoma. In the spring I'm going to consolidate from a Corolla DD & an F-350 to just 1 vehicle. On rare occasion I would need a large bed for something I'd just borrow or rent a trailer. Rather have the increased maneuverability in a short bed at this point in my life.

I'm coming from a 1st gen tundra access cab with a 4.7 liter v8. I do not want the tundra. It's just too big. If money were no option I would have the 1892 tundra.

However, it seems (no official word yet) that the engine will be Similar to hp and torque of my current set up.

The only thing that I need is the double cab longbed. I use it similar to others for those do it yourself projects. My only complaint is in my tundra a 4x8 sheet of plywood will fit between the wheel wells. But the tacoma also can hall them with a few cut boards in the right place.

One more thing for me is hauling kayaks and boating supplies. I don't want a rack on the top so the long bed with the gate down is a must.

If I didn't get a long bed I would always regret it. If I didn't need one I would have to opt for the trd pro. That is one nice off road vehicle staight from the showroom

    This is a good post.

I'd choose either ACSB or DCSB, maybe ACLB if I need more room for the bed. I'll wait for caps to come out for the 3rd gen first and then decide.

Truth is we don't know for sure until the specs are released. At the introduction they said that there was going to be a acsb. Most people assumed that he meant the double cab. But maybe they will build one to appease the people who are clamouring for a compact truck.

What does Toyota do with the old concepts...stick them in storage/museum or send them to the crusher?

I dunno...maybe if it was SASed on 37-39" tires...be a fun trail rig, alternative to an AEV Brute.
