Finally a turbo kit for the 2tr-fe!
OzBoost is a company from Australia and specializing in turbo building for the 2tr-fe. They have the hilux with the 2tr but they have fitted the kit in the Tacoma. The engine is the same in both models.
    What OzBoost says:
Turbo kit to suit 2.7 PETROL 2TR-FE engines. This kit suits 2WD & 4WD vehicles. Kit bolts on with all parts required. Can be upgraded with intercooler, injectors, and ecu. Skys the limit. Generic T28 turbo used. Dump pipe can be either 2 1/2 vband with 90 degree mandrel bend for custom exhaust or pipe to suit standard exhaust. We recommend 5PSI boost be set and the standard ECU, Injectors and airflow meter will run fine no tuning is required.
    Pricing:
$1,487 for the entry level kit. With free shipping! Normally shipping woukd be $300+ but Only if we get 10+ people!

Update they have a 3rz kit. Pretty much the same as the 2tr kit but fitted for the 3rz. Pricing is also the same.

Depends on the environment and equipment. I do hope they mean Garrett not Generic for the turbo type. Garrett is a part of HTT and they make a good and durable turbine. Longevity means keeping the heat down since it has to live in an 1,500+ degree exhaust stream. Anyone not living in a cold climate needs to look at an oil cooler and inter-cooler. I'm also not thrilled to see it right next to the brake lines, coolant lines and firewall.
Still an interesting design and low price point. i'm curious to know more.

The price is realistic. Think of the cost of a turbo. Then the price of building a turbo manifold. Which no one makes for the 2tr. This is a realistic price. Not making 500% profit like other aftermarket products.

Subscribed. I found their website a while back. That's as far as I got. Air filter box looks a little convoluted on the 1st gen system. Nice that they found the Tacoma too, but I already put an expensive LCE header on mine. I was thinking maybe the URD system some day after the warranty ran out. Will the first guinea pig please pull out your credit card! ;)

For a Garrett T28, you are right on the money. The rest is just pipe and fittings. I suppose if the R&D is already done, then a company could drop their price to open a new market. The basic kit has very little other than the turbo, intake and exhaust. It's also running at lower boost.
That's why I'm curious to know more. Can something this cheap make good power without cooking itself?

I believe it will do just fine. For running 5psi of boost the kit will not detonate the engine. This kit has been out for years over In Australia.

Is that a Garrett turbo in there? I can't tell from the boxes, since most look like Chinese aftermarket stuff. Before anyone risks turbine failure and destroys their engine, it's important to know where the parts come from and how much test data exists. Saying "it's been sold in Australia for years" is not test data, it just means they have a lot of spare engines around.
The website is very vague and keeps mentioning "generic" T28 turbos. A turbo spins around 100,000 rpm in a 1,500 degree F environment. The turbo is connected to the engine's oil system (and coolant system in this kit). So a turbo failure can quickly drain engine oil and coolant while sending white hot turbine chunks down the engine intake. I still think this could be a good kit, but a "generic" turbo isn't going to cut it.

You can get the turbo manifold for around 400 I think and I'm not sure about the dump pipe I will ask.

Let me ask what they run. I know most ball bearing turbos require oil and coolant.

I am very intrigued...... But what scares me is they say that there are options for a intercooler, But on their website doesn't even list what is in the kit..... Or how to get a intercooler with their kit.

I would want someone who has had this on a hilux chime in and tell us they have at least not blown their engine using it.

Do they have a warranty associated in case if this does blow your engine? Or at least a warranty for the parts that are going into your truck? I would guarantee this will void your entire powertrain/engine warranty

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
You foresee a lot of people over boosting their turbos because they don't know what they are doing? Maybe. Id like to say a well made $1K+ turbo wouldn't have failed in the same situation but I'd probably be wrong. May not have exploded but would def fail. Edit, Nvmind, that video was of a Garrett GT4088.

The cheap turbos will be fine in any power range you'd look to get with the TRD S/C and even beyond. I wouldn't skimp on the waste gate though (I wouldn't be surprised if the guy in the video had a bad WG cause the turbo to over boost.).

I'd be interested... wonder how hard/easy the install would be. Hilux is not completely the same as Taco... have you installed one on a Tacoma before? Question to the OP.
