Blowing the dust off this thread. ;)

Very informative thread as I'm getting ready to install some auxiliary driving lights pretty soon. I really like the way everything is tucked away nicely in the project box.

Dumb question. Am I safe in assuming the plastic box doesn't interfere with the all the ground wires connected to the mounting screw, since that's really attached to the metal inner wheel well?

Also, do the ground wires from the lights also attach to that same ground location in the box?

    Great advice!!!!
This little guy (The "Add-a-circuit") will save you a bunch of grief and you can use the tail light fuse circuit slot so the fog lights will turn on and off with the lights. In addition the fog lights are functional with the high beams. Great choice

I use the voltage from the parking light circuit to control the fogs, that way, the parking lights must at least be on for them to come on, plus, will go out when you turn the parking lights off. And I dont even switch my driving lights...I just relay them to the high beams, but you could feed them via parking lights too if you want. Heres the schematic I made from my Dodge truck.

I just installed my fog light kit yesterday and am having trouble. They turn on as soon as the key hits accessory and the switch will not turn them off. I'm not great with electrical so suggestions are welcome. I'm thinking I might have a bad switch or relay? I checked all the fuses and they're all good. I used an add-a-circuit and plugged into the accessory fuse in the cab. The switch lights up as well but the fogs are on constantly and won't turn off.

Your sending power directly to the relay or the lights via your source (accessory). Is there anyway you can post the schematic so I can look at it?

I don't have a schematic of it, sorry. I ended up returning the kit as it didn't cost anything to do so and have a whole new kit on the way. Should be in by Tuesday at the latest, I'll hook it all up and test it outside the truck before I install the harness to make sure it functions correctly.

I recently purchased a 2005 Taco with 71K miles. It was a trade in to the local Toyota dealership by the original owner. One of the black plastic fog light hole inserts was missing so I went online to order a replacement. In my search I noticed that a complete fog light kit with wiring harness and switch was only $35, that was only $15 more than a blank plastic insert. Buying the light kit was a no brainer. This thread along with a u tube video made my job painless. Radio Shack did not have a small project box like the one in the picture so I used a plastic 4X4X2 waterproof box from the Home Depot electrical department. It's a bit smaller but works and looks good. Also with this kit there was no need for flex tubing because the harness in enclosed in an outer protective cover. The other exception, the harness has a single yellow wire that runs into the cab. I followed the instructions in the following link for getting it into the cab through the hood release cable tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0NChPhlQTM. I grounded the inside cab harness to a nut under the dash, inside the cab rather that running it back into the engine compartment.

Got the kit but didn't have time to put it in till last weekend. Went in great and works perfect I was just unlucky to get a faulty kit initially but Amazon made returning it easy and I got a full refund so no worries. I'm happy...for now haha HID's are next.

In the add a fuse, I had to install a 7.5 amp fuse and a 5 amp fuse. All the tools I needed are in the attached picture. The fog lights work independently from the headlights and the high beams. Thanks Tacoma world, this job was successful because of all of you.

    I’m stuck and need help.

2009 base no factory fog option

Ordered some TRS led fog lights and an Amazon harness and switch and add a fuse.

Wired everything up and double checked all connections.

I used the add a fuse in slot number 5 (power outlets) of the dash fuse box. I am still getting power to dash outlets so I know it’s good. Ground wires all have solid connections to bare metal. Still nothing

My switch isn’t lighting up nor do I have power to the fogs.

Got power. Needed a second fuse.

Except now it’s constantly powered despite being on a keyed fuse slot.
