she's still got some life on her!

 

When I worked at a dealer most of the cars were standards. I would be so sick of shifting and driving at the end of the day I would usually hang out and do nothing for a half a hour or more

 

I agree, I loved driving a manual where I grew up in upstate NY. Around here though... F that! If I had a sports car, I'd wouldn't buy it without a manual transmission but to sit in traffic in my truck, I'm all set with the auto. I'm still tossing around the idea of getting the truck tuned to 'clean up' the throttle lag and give me better shifting strategies. Basically address some of the issues Rebecca complained about in her article. I do find myself asking the truck, we're going 30 mph, why the hell are you in 6th already??

 

Looking for opinions. I need to pick up a new fishing rod/reel . Under say $80 . Fresh water . Anyone have any input ?

 

What Mike said. Sporty cars = Manuel. Long haulers and trucks = Auto's. For me at least

Justin just got a nice shakespeare ugly stik rod and real package for under $50. He loves it

 

Shifting gets old fast as the years creep up on you. Add a blown back and knees... yea, fun.

 

I have a few of the bass pro combo's that are pretty nice that I use as loaners when people come over. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Alright so I'm moderately mechanically inclined, at least when it comes to the bikes. Would it be ok to attempt installing the short throw quick shift by myself? Or is that too advanced?

 

Go for it. Should be a quick and easy install.

The idiots in our town just decided to buy a brand new firetruck ($450K spread over 10 years means we'll end up paying $540k). My town has a population of less than 3000 people; our fire department is all volunteer, we already have 3 fire trucks, and we have a mutual aid deal with the three surrounding towns. And these are the same morons who'll be up there bitching at the meeting this the fall when they get their suddenly-increased property tax bills.

 

For whatever reason I get so nervous with cars. But I'll tear onto a bike without any instructions

I hear ya. I'm more apt to tear into a vehicle than a bike myself. Things are more spread out, easier to work on generally. Everything is tucked into the bike so tightly it makes it difficult to work on (plus the added fun of removing all the body panels). When I do get back into motorcycles, it'll probably be a single cylinder supermoto, everything exposed and built for abuse.

You don't even want to know what mine are here.
One of the major corporations is ready to pull their world headquarters out of town. Taxes will be interesting if that happens.
There's very few natives remaining here.
I'm hoping to retire next year,so I'll have some options to ponder.
