So for all those rusted out tacomas that get totaled out or salvaged, what does toyota do with them? Can you buy them back like you can if you total your car thru the insurance company? I have bought 2 of my tacomas back after totaling them, but my question is for the rusted out ones, do they give you the option?

That's a good question. I would guess not - would open them to law suit when the frame gave way and someone was hurt or killed. They wouldn't let me leave with my 2000 and it had new tires, battery, water pump, gas filter and other stuff I don't remember. I bet some tech enjoyed the new tires for sure.

    They become new steel.

They all get crushed They never end up in anything but cubes that get melted down

A shame for all the good parts .

It is a Tax thing and A liability Issue To many Lawyers!!!

They could sell them back to you with a salvage title and avoid any lawsuits.

A better question would be; why do you keep totaling your tacomas?

If the dealer held my truck hostage for any reason, I'd ask to test drive a new one, kick the salesman out and refuse to give it back until they gave my truck back. A dealer is not the police or an agency of authority - it would be considered theft. If I have to sign a waiver, fine, but I'm getting my damn truck back.

See I was in the know about what would happen I have a great relationship with my dealer. My Truck never set foot on their property.

What happens is your vehicle is no longer safe to drive from a legal stand point. It depends just on the laws of your state .At that point if you want to be stupid I am sure the local law can come put the bracelets on and explain the error of your ways.

Not having allowed myself to get to this point I guess if you had the inspection sticker removed you could have your Truck hauled home on a roll back.

i know some states do not have a safety inspection. I can only go by Pa in that respect we do .

Not really anything to compare it with unless it is having your truck put out of service under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Rules.
