That sounds like an easy method to try. I wouldn't have to chop up any more of the tube :D

It took me about 30 minutes total including getting it out and back in. Super easy and you can reverse it. I will report back later today when I can get her out and romp on her a little.

Still my success is a grain of salt. I still only have a 3rz and it does require less air volume.

Interesting. That must be pretty rare then. It looks like you have a red snake living in your engine bay!

Yeah. Don't give up on my method just yet. Like @RickerRicker19 use heavier guage wire like coat hanger. Mine was too light of a guage wire and collapsed too easily under heavy acceleration.

It is not common that's for sure. I actually stumbled on to her when I was coming back from japan. She was for sale up in nw Washington so I bought her after I landed and drove her to where I'm stationed now in socal. After the fact I figured out how rare the 4wd 5spd is with a 3rz. Lots of 2wd 3rz 4r out there. The white elephant though is one with a factory locker.

Speaking of which my tests came back well. No feeling of a loss on power like before.

That's pretty cool. Do you get better or worse mileage than a v6?

And I'm going to try the coat hanger method. If it doesn't work, all I'll end up with is a ruined hanger or two.

    This is true!

Honestly it is a little better but was before a full length roof rack and regearing to 4.30 for the elocker. I think once I get into the pizza cutters 255/85 and my ratio is closer my gas mileage will get better again. Right now I get around 20-23 hwy. 18 or 19 in town.

Before all this I could get into the 24 or 25 range on the hwy.

Wow! I could only dream of 25 on the highway. I think when I was stock, the best I ever got was 21 or 22

Yeah but with the 3rz weight kills. Eventually.....and I do mean that.....I would like to supercharge it but that has to wait for a looking time.

Yeah the whine is nice. Traditionally the 3rz loves the turbo way more but the tuning and finicky nature of turbos in general, at least to me, are a turnoff. I like bolt and go. Realistically with a full intake, header, exhaist, cams, and the super duper charger I should hit the 300+ mark. That's after a cool 4k setup like the 5vz with 7th injector and extra goodies.

This truck will most likely never be supercharged while it is a daily driver

I will rock it till the wheels fall off. Doesn't matter whether I stay a Marine or I'm a bloody ceo of a fortune 500. 4139630224420d405b41bb03a2f4dd3b_e097c54e6278e3a4f9d13100584fdf0e2382e240.jpg
Although if I make ceo there will be a SAS and supercharger involved lol.

Oh same. I'll keep my truck until the wheels fall off, and when they do I'll SAS it and put on some bigger ones!

Does anything else need to be done to the stock air box for waterproofing? (I don't have the deck plate mod)
