I got them from "DS Tactical", a local army surplus store.

    The MWC's are $35, with the CAN-US conversion that's under $30.00
The MFC's sell for $65 CAN, or around $50 US.

The fuel cans are hard to find in the US because they are non-CARB Compliant and I don't think stores can legally sell them in the states. The shop I got them from said they just had a guy come up from the states last week and bought 2 grand worth of MFC's to bring back across the border to sell. They won't ship them to the states, but apparently there's no issue's driving them across yourself.

His website says he's from Florida so I doubt it. His profit margins are good but that'd be quite the drive for a truck load of fuel cans.

Yeah that's true. Whatever he's doing I'm sure he's still making a killing off selling them. I might have to get into the business of exporting MFC's to the states. :spy:

His kid or nephew probably goes to school near the border. You see lots of setups like that for many different items. I've got a friend that is getting ready to be close to the border and he is thinking about doing the same.

Ordered my MFC and MCW plus spouts from DS Tactical online

    I like those guys

Interestingly , Scepter itself sent me some new O rings for my spouts but they said they wouldn't even send those across the border

    Bummer on the fishing.

I haven't fished in almost 20 years, going to start back up in July though.

Good on the bacon. I don't cook bacon often, but when I do I buy fat bricks at Costco and cook for 2 hours and feed everyone I come in contact with.

    :)

What do you cook it on? I use cast iron and bacon press. I'm always looking for new different ways to improve though.

I prefer the cast iron pan over the griddle in the woods. It always seems to get full of grease and of course I never take the time to level the damn thing so it spills out of the griddle. I did try some of that pre cooked bacon recently. It wasn't horrible.

Ya bears suck. Notice the trashbag? Untouched. Apple pie for breakfast in the cooler? Gone.

Posting this for feedback on an idea...

Our kitchen setup is two large 18 Gallon rubber made totes. They are cheap, stack well, waterproof, and durable enough. One holds food and the other all other kitchen supplies utensils, pans, pots, plates, other misc. crap.

The problem is organization and finding the stuff in the supply tote. It has become a pain in the ass.

I want to solve this without spending a lot of money... So I was thinking of using this:

Stalwart 75-4650 Oversized Portable Tool Chest, Three Tool boxes in One

It seems like it would go a long way towards keeping things organized and accessible. I would secure it with a strap in the upright position the rear of the truck bed, and I could still access everything in it when the truck is stopped without unpacking the truck.

The three boxes are kinda small but should work for my needs. Here are the dimensions:

    • 19.5" x 9" x 9"
    • 19.5" x 9" x 7"
    • 19.5" x 9" x 13"

Good points. I've got a truck shell, and sealed up well, I'm currently winning the battle when it comes to lunar dust intrusion so I feel good about that. :bananadance:

Bear box storage would be good to go in the Sierras. The top two boxes on the Stalwart are modular and can be moved independently of each other and the bottom box which is also a plus.

I may order the thing from a home store in my area with a 90 day return policy just to check it out. I've got two 5-day trips planned in July and it would be nice to have this, provided it works. :D

At least one possible downside may be weight, as the drawers are sheet metal...

I'm looking to build a chuck box myself and I've yet to find something to store everything so I've found a local business who sells kits and does custom design so I may go that route. Currently I have a smart bin from Walmart holding the grill and stove and gas and bucket with kitchenware.

I've seen those smartbins. They sure are tough. I've seen a lot of built chuck boxes perusing the threads on EXPO. The main issue I have with them is weight (heavy), and inaccessible while in transit. However once in camp, they sure work well. Custom is nice too because you get exactly what you want, no compromises. :D

I made a small "chuckbox" based off of the ones I've seen on expo out of the Rubbermaid action packer. It works well for keeping most things organized, until the girlfriend overloads it with things we never end up using. It fits all of our nesting camp pots and pans along with our camp chef 2 burner camp stove. All the spices and utensils go in the clear tubes in the lid.

I have some of the action packers in the 8-gallon variety. I don't use them for camping anymore and can't recommend them.

    • They don't stack,
    • lids are slippery,
    • waste a lot of space due to the necked down design of the floor, i.e. sloped walls.
    • Cooking oil will decompose the black plastic. (ask me how I know) :D
I think the 24-gallon ones are certainly better than the smaller ones though.

I have a very similar setup. Even have the same GSI utensil kit haha! Unfortunately my camp stove is just slightly too big to fit inside the bin itself...

Agreed, and the baja thing costs more than the bin. I can do better.
