I'm looking to get any advice from people that may have owned a sierra and swapped to a tacoma. I love the tacomas but trying to convince the wife why I need to leave the full size truck behind. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Good luck with that. They're not exactly comparable, but reliability (likely), fuel economy (maybe), and higher resale value (definitely) are things the Tacoma offers compared to a fullsize GM truck.

Other than that, not sure what you're wanting to hear. A fullsize truck is far better for truck things than the Tacoma is.

My dad is actually trading in his 2013 GMC for a tacoma as soon as the 16's come out. I've driven his GMC plenty. Soft cushy ride, gets a least as good of mileage as my tacoma, the bigger bed is nice, overall is a nice ride. BUT, like already said, kind of an apples oranges comparison. Tacoma has way more off-road capability, feels more like a truck, looks more badass, easier to maneuver around park etc, and just plain more fun to drive.

    Just sayin.. :anonymous:

Tacoma is great, but for hauling and towing it isn't full size capable IMO.

Yes, you have a point there. But for trail running truck stuff, or hauling a bedload with the right rear springs, it's a different story.

It all depends on what you need the truck for, I absolutely loved my gmc sierra and had no problems. More room for long trips, more towing capacity and more comfortable to tow a large load with, bigger bed, etc. Tacomas last forever, a little easier to daily drive, high resale, still can tow quite a bit, good for offroad.

All depends on what you need to do with the truck

My dad gets a new GMC Sierra about every 3-5 years. Never has any problems with them, they ride great and his 12 (I think) gets about 16-20 mpgs. Pretty spacious and comfy too. Depends on how much you want to tow/haul vs where you want to take your truck.

You should have asked the question, wether to get a Tundra or a GMC Sierra. Then you'd be comparing apples to apples. Wait, nope, you'd be comparing apples to lemons.

That's why I specified towing and hauling. I'd argue that even though springs can be changed for better tow/haul capability, payload and frame strength can't and I'm (possibly incorrectly) assuming the full size GM can haul more, tow more, and has a frame that is stronger to do it.

I think a wife might prefer a comfy ride over "if I get a Tacoma I can off-road better," but I don't know OP or his wife. I know for mine, telling her I want to trade into what is a less refined truck that has better balls would yield a poor result.

Do you use the full size like it should be used? Buddies at work give me shit all day about my small tacoma and I pull up every few days with 3 dirt bikes in the back and I've never once seen them use there full size truck. The tacoma can move quite a bit of material. Maybe not as good as a full size but it will get the job done. +1 on the resale value Its crazy high compared to other trucks.

R'Amen to that. My wife prefers the trail capability of my truck versus having a full size. But I don't tow a 24' pontoon boat or load up a pallet of cement in my bed either. I'd have a full size if I wanted to pull more than I could load in my bed.

Yes, a very good point! OP, make sure you include this when you report back to your wife.

"But honey, chics dig Tacoma's! How and I supposed to get ass in this shitting Sierra? You're being very unreasonable!"

I got rid of my 3/4 ton 4wd Silverado to get my Tacoma. Sure it was much more of a "truck" but I didn't need it. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it. Just turned 7k and like it more everyday. If I need something bigger I will give a buddy some beer money to borrow his.

    This right here.

I had a double cab "short bed " (6.5ft bed) 2500HD chevy..... hated the thing, outside of the few times where we would tow a big trailer or pile a bunch of dirtbikes in the back it was a pain, sucked gas and maintence was horrible.

Got my DCSB tacoma and never looked back, i off road it so much more than the chevy cus it actually fits in places.

New every 3-5 years. Is that supposed to prove it's reliability? ;)

I think the Sierras ride like shit. They feel like an overgross car with worn out shocks. Way too soft. Not a fan at all.

Let's all be honest, after 5 years GMs aren't really worth keeping.

Not a hater, this is my first non GM truck. Just saying after 5 years they're not worth shit, and lots of people want cheap trucks.
