I found the right trim that works for our sheet metal and bought a bulk roll from the manufacturer. You'll find my cost per foot lower than anyone else selling this particular trim as well.

How many feet would I need for 4 fenders and a high clearance bumper? My auto parts crap liner is hanging on by a thread lol

 

Twenty feet seems to be the right amount for four fenders and a high clearance.

Point is you make it sound like it's some new wonder product, which it's not. After using TrimLok for 20+ years I would highly suggest you glue it on being upside down because the dirt accumulation will make it slide right off in time. Slicone will both adhere and seal it from dirt. Just a suggestion.

 

I understand that you have some previous experience with this stuff so do I but the Op didn't say anything misleading and you're being a bit harsh for no apparent reason ? He found a product that is definitively better than the door edge guard from Pep Boys most people are using for this and he is just sharing it as a better solution. I guarantee you that 99% of the people on this forum did not know this product existed. Silicone is a bad idea on any metal application including sealed and painted metal. Silicon traps and releases moisture for a long time, long after it appears cured. That trapped moisture can and will cause rust even through paint. In my experience working with custom automotive applications urethane is stronger and does not have the moisture issue that silicone does.

Now, all that being said I agree it does loosen up over time those of us that have worked with it have unboubdetly spent time re pinching it tighter with pliers. Boatbuilder's suggestion of adding a sealant is a very good idea because it will keep water and grime out over time. Water will get in and you don't want that water sitting in there with your cut metal edge. After you install the molding use masking tape to tape off the body as perfectly against the edge of the molding as you can. Then remove the molding and scuff the paint with a scotch pad and use a good degreaser or wax remover to make sure it is squeaky clean and reapply the molding. Apply a very very thin bead of urethane then wet your finger and smooth it out and pull the masking tape. If you use black urethane it will be nearly invisible and seal that edge and help keep the pitch molding in place forever. I repeat apply very very little urethane because you are just creating a micro seam seal you are not caulking your windows.

 

Have we determined if this works on the 2nd gen fender flares?
