They've not confirmed it via press release. But Toyota hasn't figured out how to automate design and manufacturing implementation, so those jobs are carried out by people. Sometimes those people lurk on Tacoma world. Sometimes those people are comfortable sharing information like VVTi-W because the tech is already out on other vehicles (NX200t) and it has been all but explicitly confirmed via official press release.

And why are you being a dick about it exactly? I asked a pretty simple question and even gave a nice little "not being a dick, really want to know" disclaimer. If you work for Toyota you're not doing a good job representing Toyota's professional name

I don't think I'm being a dick about it at all. I'm doing my best to answer your questions without completely outing myself or over sharing. I assure you I'm not making up crap and pretending to know what I'm talking about. I'm sharing what I'm professionally comfortable with sharing. I got a little snarky with you because you act like my response was wrong/incorrect because I didn't have a Toyota press release to back it up.

People are always going to doubt when you don't have a Toyota backed release behind you. Just brush it off and share what you can. If you are right, in the end, everyone will know.

Toyota stopped production of the Tundra V6 because Ford, Gm, Ram all had superior V6's in their trucks that get way better gas mileage. Customers are buying those V6's, Toyota customers didn't see the V6 as a viable option so the sales of the V6 model was dismal.

Haven't seen BlueT in a while. Must be doing some soul searching and figuring out what color he wants for his new 2016.

He has sown his seeds. We'll see what the harvest looks like when the Tacoma comes out. Hopefully he realized just how big of a hole he was digging and stopped.

Personally I would have rather seen the current 4.0 engine (hopefully tweaked for a bit more power) with a 6 or 8 speed tranny. That way you get the same reliable engine but better fuel economy.

    CAFE, CAFE, CAFE.

There is a complicated engine liter standard for a vehicle's footprint and classification. The Tacoma's footprint and classification requires less than 4.0 liters. That's all there is to it, it's stamped in titanium. The 4.0L was never in consideration for the 2016, period.

I believe the 4.0L in the 4runner will also be scrapped in 2017 because the CAFE standards tighten up a little bit more.

I knew somebody would play the CAFE card. CAFE is based on the entire Toyota fleet not just one vehicle. There is nothing requiring or restricting Toyota from using a 4.0L. Last time I checked, the tiny footprint 2016 mustang is still getting the 5.0L V8. It's more about efficiency than literage. The reason why the 2016 Tacoma is getting a 3.5L van/car/suv inspired motor is because Toyota continues to manufacture the shit pile 5.7L Tundra without any updates since 2006 and it's dragging the fleet down. Also the nonefficient but badass Landcruiser.
