I'm thinking of installing a rack on my double cab and have a question. According to the installation instructions I've seen for the factory racks, the weld nuts are fitted into the roof on every truck. When I pull the black moulding up on my truck, there are no nuts visible. It seems the nuts are underneath thin plates that must be pried off. Have any of you guys done this? Just want to make sure the nuts are actually there before I go prying stuff off.

There are weld or rivnuts in every double cab. look for the tape covering over them thats painted over the same color as the truck.

Ohh..so it's just tape and not a metal plate that has to be pried off? Nice.

yep. I used an xacto knife to cut a line down the middle of the tape then peeled right off. careful lining up the holes. I had to re-tap at least a couple.

Yep. It's tape that's been painted over. Installed one I bought from another member not too long ago. Just cut away the tape where the weld nuts are and you're good to go.
