Just recently bought a 2015 4.0 v6 and am looking to maximize engine potential without voiding the factory warentee.
So far I know there is removal of emissions items such as the carbon filter, and adjusting the throttle body. Anyone do anything like this and been successful?

P.S. I'm keeping it naturally aspirated...

Honestly the power increase is not worth 4k, that and there are various other things that you should get after installing the supercharger, like upgraded brakes, cooler spark plugs, and a bunch of other things. Plus its just more maintenance in the long run

Since you are going to keep it naturally aspirated, keep it well maintained and you will maximize the engines potential life. If you have a lot of spare coin laying around, you can change the exhaust and explore a CAI, but, you won't achieve any appreciable performance gains, but, you MAY like the "sound" of performance. If you have stumbled across removing the carbon filter on this forum, you already know the answer to your question regarding engine potential.

Well that was just one of the examples that came to mind. I know there are lots of things that can be altered depending on how mechanically savvy the person is doing the modifications and how much one is willing to risk. I'm not extremely experienced with working on engines so I just wanted to know what people have explored and what the outcomes are.

I wasn't too impressed either, at least not for the price..

    thanks for the feedback though

I put a K&N CAI on mine. Then replaced the massive factory muffler with a Spintech 6000. It sounds a lot better. But I drive it slow so I can get 20mpg on my commute. And I think it sounds better at low RPM anyhow.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/spintech-6000-muffler-exhaust-2015-v6-tacoma.375830/

This truck is not built for performance. Nor was it's V6 4.0L engine.

The TRD SuperCharger will put you at like 305HP total. But now that they are out of production it's likely well over $5k. And frankly I don't think that's worth the jump from 236HP to 305HP.

That said - my boss has a 2014 Tundra with the TRD SuperCharger and he's pushing over 500HP with everything else stock. That thing is a rocket ship...

I highly recommend against the K&N air filter. Actually I recommend against anything oiled as far as filters go, no offense to the previous poster. It lets more junk past in general or, worse, when you go to clean it you may over oil the filter and gunk up your throttle body. Go with something with a dry style filter (Volant and AFe make good CAI's that have dry filters) if you want the extra noise (simulated power) of a CAI.

CAI and exhausts only work to increase power on NA (naturally aspirated) engine when everything is changed to match or the manufacturer left a bit of power on the table to reduce noise. Toyota didn't leave much, if any, power on the table and that's why you don't see a ton of people saying go for a CAI. Like rocklobster said, if you bought the whole system (intake, headers, and exhaust) for your truck you might get some good gains but at that point you may as well go for the S/C.

I have the S/C. It makes the truck feel like it probably should of out of the factory. Pulls way harder down low with lots of passing power on the highway. No rocket ship for sure, but with another $1000 in mods I could easily squeak out 325 hp TO THE WHEELS. Pretty much maintenance free too. I'll probably pull mine apart at about 50K miles to do a cleaning early and change my plugs but even that's only an afternoons worth of work.

Long story short OP, if you don't think the S/C is worth it there isn't anything that will beat that dollar for dollar on your truck to increase power. Just leave it alone. Maybe in a couple of years Gadget will get around to building the plugs so us 09+ guys can run his UCON EMS and then you could tune some power for ~$1K but otherwise I don't see anything out there that would help you.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
It comes with cooler plugs. It extends your plug life from 30k to 100k miles.

upgraded brakes are not needed. Your not track racing it, the stock brakes do just as good as they did before.

There is more maintenance but basically the same up till 100k then you have a few additional items.

the 4k is optomisitic. I think 4500 if you install it yourelf is about best case now.

and realistically you could also spend 4k buying every single part other than the supercharger for the 2015 and still make less power.

Mild to tame at best. It is a great engine, its just not a great engine for bolt on performance bang for the buck type deal :)

NOTE: the OP started this thread inquiring about performance mods - he has already installed exhaust, CAI, is considering fiberglass front fenders, bumpers etc. ?????

You guys have to be honest with yourselves. For the amount of power gained for a true bolt on mod which also retains its legality in all 50 states I would have to say it's a very fair price to pay, especially for all the R&D time they put into it. Then again it also depends what you paid in price for it at the time of it's purchase. I shopped around and got insanely lucky to score it at the price I did. Nevertheless, I felt it really woke the F out of the truck. If I want more I will pursue the route of water/meth injection, which I may actually do. Provide me cheapie power for a cheapie price.
