Very lucky. I'm lucky I have a awesome wife that has been supportive and puts up with all of my bullshit throughout this build. Next build will be hers.

Assembled 3rd with 4.56 gear and locker, and front clamshell w/4.56's ordered! Very excited to get this installed. ECGS was very helpful and easy to work with. :burnrubber:

I might have went a different route if there was a good shop like ECGS here. It was just too expensive for me to have a shop on Oahu set my gears. My build is coming to an end after this. Gears, 35's, and locker were really the only important items left.

@rka I just got 17.6 mpg again. I guess the Ecoflop works! This is up from 16.1 mpg. And these last two tanks were driven over H3.

She'll like those rigids. They are good lights, and they aren't too blinding to oncoming traffic with the amber covers on.

Yeah, I'm happy with it right now. My milage is about to go down as soon as I install the gears though. My 6th gear is going to be too low on the freeway with only 33's and 4.56 gears.

Picked up some gear oil for the diff swap. Lucas 85w-140 is what ECGS recommends.

Just did mine with 4.56 and 33s. pretty good all around, acceleration is way better and on the freeway its not screaming. 2000 rpm is about 57-58. Mine is auto, though. I do a lot of town driving and going over the hill to the windward side, so it will probably gain mpg for me. And if I am on the freeway, its mostly in traffic.

    X2 on mile's comment. Get the blower. Blower + gears = :D

I'd save the lucas for later. You're going to have to break in the gears and drive maybe 20 easy miles or so, then let it cool completely. then drive regularly for about 500 or so before draining and refilling the fluid.. IDK if you want peace of mind for the break in but I'd use cheap oil and then the lucas. Some say there's no need to flush after breaking in gears, but there will be metal shavings all over the magnet. Just did mine today.

    Good build, I like it.

I got the Lucas on sale so it was almost the same price as the rest and I do plan on using it after break in. I kind of wanted piece of mind using the recomended gear oil for break in because I feel that it would need the good oil more at break in than after. But maybe I'm just being parranoid. lol I'll go look into it and see if there's a cheaper oil that I can use for break in though.

That is true, the initial drive gets it nice and hot, you may want the good stuff in there. I just figured that brand new oil will only degrade after its heated up, and will be changed soon enough. ECGS just recommends that because it is thicker weight, and sticks to the gears well.
Why didn't you go 4.88? Not looking for extra power with the heavier tires and armor?

The 6 speed has lower stock gearing than the autos. Even with the 4.56's and 35's, my gearing will be lower than stock. So basically in 6th gear my RPM's will be a lot higher than before. So good for offroad, not so good for freeway. I don't want to be driving 55 mph and have my rpms at 3500. lol
I researched a couple builds that had 6 speeds and 4.56's and they thought it was actually a little too low. 4.88's would be even worse.

wow, I didn't know that manuals were that much lower.. I think you'll be happy anyway. Mine made a world of a difference, and im not armored up, either.
