this may sound stupid... but how do I tell if it's my power steering pump going out or my rack? the thing "moans" every time I turn the wheel (calm down guys) and it's getting worse, I know the rack bushings need replacing, but feel like it's the pump that's "moaning" not the rack...

Holy cow I'm laughing so hard right now....

Cole is currently in his room crying.

Why? because I sent him there for the way he was talking.

His parting words are why I'm laughing so hard.

"I'm 9! I should be able to say "butthole"! "

Is it the same moan you get if you try to steer further than the stops? If so, a bad rack could be causing enough resistance to make it moan

There's a fine screen in the reservoir attached to the pump that is notorious for getting clogged up. Super easy to unbolt, IIRC there's 3 bolts, one of which you access though the hole in the pulley. Pull that out, flush the fluid, and clean that screen as good as possible with brake cleaner or something of the sort, then run some fluid through it and see how it flows.

The clogged screen cavitates the fluid and causes the wine. I bet that fixes your problem. At least try it before you go replacing parts.

what fluid to you recommend? I know Jace was told to run something at Rock Therapy due to his power steering issues... but I can't for the life of me remember what it was

Enough to make it a lot of fun!
That is funny. That sounds like my 6 year old cousin. When ever he does something and you want to check it, he says that it is good because he is 6.

Toyota calls for Dexron III. I think the fluid that was mentioned at Rock Therapy was Lucas power steering fluid.

I don't know which kind is better than the next, nor do I care enough to track down the 'best'. Usually asking about oils on a forum opens a huge can of worms.

Hey ebbs. I used to have the same problem. They say to clean the screen but I added royal purple power steering fluid to it and the squeal went away and never came back. Just my .02

Like said, you'll be fine if you take it slow. Only part that may really whack something is there's an area not too far from Bowling Ball hill where a lot of water collects, it's fairly wide. There's always large rocks hiding out under the water. I'm pretty sure I recall my ex losing a skid plate in there haha. But I've been through there plenty of times with my stock skids.

You guys think its possible to get a tube style front bumper fabed for around 500$? I like them more than the plate style and i know those run around 1000$ so one would think a tube style should be cheaper.
