Honestly I don't care what engine Toyota goes with or how it's configured. Just F-ING release the F-ING specs so people can decide now, on their own if they should get a '15 or wait for the '16. They'll both be good. I know the logic behind holding out on info given the huge surplus of '15s, but some will like the 15 better and some will like the 16 better. At least release SOME accurate details so those on the fence can do what they want to do.

Really How?. Magic? If its not through knock sensor than through what.
@Jeff Lange wrote its knock sensor that does this, I agree with him 100%.
If you know something else post the info what is that magical sensor that detects octane before knock? Part number?
For a second there, I tough it must be my English that is causing you to not understand. Than I see @Jeff Lange post one of the best written and most informative posts which is pretty much summary what I was trying to explain, and I see your replay. If you did not understood what he wrote than not much its going to help you.
I can not explain this better than the way he did, so I am just goign to say you are wrong @StAndrew
    and
    @Jeff Lange is 100% correct.

What more troubling people actually liked your posts so there is more of you....

One way to detect and track combustion events on an internal combustion engine is through a little bit of magic called ionization. I'll explain so even bluet can understand.

Basically after a combustion event the ecu fires the spark plugs again and through this can measure the electrical resistance of the gasses inside the combustion chamber to determine how successful it was at its goal at that time. There is a significant amount more to this process. I also have no idea if toyota uses this technology or not.

Also I must comment on the Diesel engine stuff. I don't care personally that toyota isn't going to use one but those who think a small Diesel engine will have a
"Narrow" power band or that the drivability charictaristics will be poor. You are flat wrong. Go drive a bmw 335d or hell the 328d. Go drive those then look up the hp and trq of those engines. I bet you will love to drive them. Small diesels are awesome. The thing that kills diesel now is not the high pressure fuel system,it's the egr and scr systems.

Also if you think that there is no replacement for displacement your an idiot as well. I love big block v8 as much as anyone but the American v8 is dieing and there is not much hope for it. Just face it. A v8 in a tacoma would be fun no doubt but totally pointless.

And I think it's funny how some people on here complain about the tacoma not getting a truck engine then in the next breath talk about how it not for towing or work blah blah blah.

I'm going to buy a 2016 tacoma so I can camp, dd it, pull my M3 to the track and when I get a ski boat pull that to lake mead. I don't have the money to buy ten different vehicles all with a singular perpose. I need something that can do it all.

Being that this is a fuel injected engine, and has a MAF and O2 sensors, and the injectors operate on a curve using this data, I would like to believe that the knock sensor is used to determine when the mixture causes preignition, and retards the spark to cool the chamber. In a conversation with a rep from Bully Dog, I was led to believe that Toyota resets the curve every 3000milliseconds in order to maintain the most efficient curve, which is the challenge that is difficult to overcome for third party chipmakers as this reset is buried deep in the ecu. The most practical method to alter this would be to replace the ecu, costing more than $1K for very little gain. This is supported by those who have had leaky injectors where the immediate symptom is huge fuel consumption with very little power.

And by the way, every Canadian I have met has been nothing but hospitable and nice to me. Good folks. Saw some Canadian bashing going on earlier.

A couple more updates to the EPC showing the engine. Still no pages/part information specific to the new 2GR-FKS beyond old diagrams that are still being used for the 2016, once that gets added we will have actual chassis codes (GRN225, GRN245, etc.), and part numbers for everything and can compare to other 2GR models and so on. Many diagrams and almost all parts now have the end date of 2015/08 applied to them. I expect more catalog updates to come relatively quickly now that we are in to July.

Yes, as had been previously stated, I was the one who posted that sheet to Wikipedia when it was released. It is incorrect, the Tacoma is not getting the 7GR.

It's interesting how once information is out there on the internet, it's like impossible to get it back, haha. I'm trying to correct the information that I posted, and it's been an uphill battle.

One of the other 2016 threads but it was somebody decifering the numbers on the order sheet that was posted above
