Usually up to a couple hours, depends on what you decide to use.

I can't say for certain, but I'd just guess that black box turtle wax stuff has a synthetic sealing component to it in addition to whatever real "wax" might be there in a $20 product. Most of the over the counter easy application stuff nowadays has a synthetic (sealing) component to it, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Obviously there are better (more expensive) options. But this product sounds pretty ok for a do it yourself over the counter product.

Also, by its nature- I would think the point of this line of products is to introduce it to the surface swirls- in order to mask the swirls. If you sealed it up first with an actual sealer, I'd wonder if you'd get the results the product intends you to achieve. Personally, I like sealers topped with wax. But if I had a black truck and was trying to get rid of swirls with this product, I would not use a sealer first. If the intent is solely protection, then yes I might do a sealer first- but the black box wouldn't be my choice of topper as its intent would be diminished by the sealer underneath it.

Just one opinion of many. I think you're on the right track with what you've got, although I've not had experience with that compound/polish.

Thanks for the answers guys stuck to wash clay and wax. Just spent about an hour doing prewax.

On another note, my TRD FJ wheels won't come clean. They look fine wet of course but dry to a blueish haze. Any tips for matte black wheels? I've heard of matte black detailer but haven't searched for any. Unrelated to cleaning I think, but the center caps look way more faded, gray and faded red rather than black and rich red.

the damage from a recent minor accident has started some paint chipping and what appears to be rust. If on a scale from 1-10 I was to rank my paint/repair skill, i'd give myself a solid 2. (At least I'm being honest right?)

Is there any easy fix to spray over the damaged parts to prevent rust? I'm not that concerned about fixing the dent, I just don't want the corner or the bumper to get totally rusty.

I wasn't sure if somehow I could put on a new layer of clear coat to seal it in? plasti-dip?

    None yet.
I have a question. Is it okay to wash your new truck at a self service car wash (w/soap) and then wax your truck later? Thanks.

I'm not a detailer but I wouldn't do that because when you wash it then drive it home, you're picking up dirt along the way. Maybe you could do that and then a quick wash and rinse.

Personally I don't trust those brushes on my truck. You can't get the elbow grease you need to and there's no telling what's hidden in those bristles.

Also considering its new I wouldn't. Self service washes tend to scratch things up, even if you can't see it. At this stage your paint shouldn't need any correction so I would do it by hand, seal that sucker up and then wax. Done.

New vehicle here. Unfortunately I don't have the time to put into the car all at once. More than likely 2 to 3 hours a weekend
Looking for recommendations for Otc items as I would like to start this weekend.

I appreciate you taking the time in helping.

I am in the same boat. I usually do what I can like a puzzle (exterior wash - interior clean - spray down - wheels - etc)
Finding that detailing spray is good. I'll give it a good wash then hit with detailing spray when I can.
Meg's is all pretty good all around and easy to find.

is there an updated list of recommended waxes and sealants? Im located in South Florida so I'm leaning towards a sealant, because i have a year round summer. What would you recommend for a hand polish application on a red color.

I recently did a clay bar, meguires ultimate compound, then ultimate polish. Afterwards i used what i had laying around which was mothers Brazilian cleaner wax to try to temporarily seal it.

Since I did the detail a few weeks ago should i clay bar it again before the sealant?

Also what sealant should I use ? since this was last edited in 08.

thank you for your time, Happy 4th!

Mine was due to kid in college and $1800 a month for a small apartment in Boston.
Now it's a kid, extra car payment, student loans, him and his girl having moved in, house repairs and working OT while he lives his dream. But I'm not bitter or anything.

I am going to say no. It appears you have some paint bubbling up too. Body shop needs to fix.

    Bueller?

Figured I'd keep the theme with the meg ultimate stuff, ordered some last night.

So should I clay before I put a couple of coats of that stuff down again?

I am no detailer - I use Duragloss sealant and have had great results with it. When that runs out I am going to try the Sonax poly net shield. Looks like good stuff.

I think the clay bar will take the wax off. If it were me, I wouldn't clay bar again. I would wash and then seal it.

Good old rustoleum, any type of rust stopping paint will work .
