Most unreliable I've owned as an '82 VW Jetta 4dr. Lots of electrical bugs for a very bare-bones vehicle, finicky CIS fuel injection, always needing another repair of some sort.

It was fun to drive though, I swapped the tired stock 1.7L out for a '91 1.8L, had a Neuspeed throttle body and 2" free flowing exhaust. Bought it for $500, drive it for 5 long years, and sold it for $550. Probably spent 2K on parts plus my labour in that time though.

Most unreliable I've experienced was the '93 GMC 2500HD 4x4 with a 6.2L Diesel that my dad used to have - he bought it used at 3 years old, and spent $4K in repairs in the first year - no major components. It made my beat up old '83 Toyota 4x4 pickup look pretty darn good, though it was very reliable for me.

1996 Pontiac Sunfire. Had it in for brake issues before 1k miles. Had a bad knocking in one of the cylinders at 4k miles and was told the pistons were out of round or some bs like that, full rebuild. Had it in again for brakes two more times before it hit 10k miles. Rack and pinion broke while my wife (with our newborn baby) was making a left turn in traffic and the steering locked up forcing her onto the sidewalk to avoid being hit. The clincher was yet again the brakes failing and the pedal going all the way to the floor with me driving and going right through a red light luckily without hitting anyone. A cop watched it and naturally thought I ran the red light and pulled me over as I coasted to a stop. I showed him the brakes and he let me off. He gave me a report of the incident which I showed to the dealer manager and a copy to Pontiac corp. and within two weeks was given a check for the full buyback of the car.

My Mom had a 1991 Ford Escort Wagon that was an awful, awful vehicle. She purchased it with about 60K on it and it only lasted until 106K when every major system in the car had a serious issue.

    - The gas gauge was always optimistic and read full.
    - The coolant gauge was always optimistic and read cold, although the "check coolant" light was constantly lit.
    - The speedometer occasionally worked, and when it did, it squeaked.
    - The passenger door lock didn't work with the key.
    - The exhaust systems (yes, they were Midas) lasted less than a year each.
    - The suspension was always being replaced in one shape or another.
    - The transmission dumped all of its fluid at 106K.

Back when I was in college and my Mom was working she was putting almost $300/mo into the car trying to keep it running to get to and from work. I tried to convince her that it would be a better decision to purchase a new car than to keep fixing the Escort. She refused, hoping with each repair she'd finally reach the point at which the car would be "good" for awhile. Unfortunately, it never came.

I loathe those cars, they were so, so bad.

I didn't see them in the list but I did skim through pretty quick. I had 2 (still have 1 on them)

    - 1976 Fiat X1/9 - had trouble with everything, rebuilt the tranny 5 times, snapped a drive shaft, AC failed.
    - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. This thing eats batteries and the power window cables are ended with plastic that the Texas heat just tears up.

Mine was the 1974 Cheyenne Super 1/2 ton .... Motor blew from a crack in block at 12,000 mi. Got 1/2 paid for... I Zeibarted it new.... and the only thing holding the box sides together in 1980 (6 years) was the tailgate, which was full or rust also...

This was the only truck that I've owned that came with "built-in" rust... it came out from under the paint in 2 years....

Never owned another POS Chev product since...!!

My 86 Celeb 2.8 was a decent car..$100 and ran fine for a year just needed front brakes. I later owned an 88 2.5 $200 car for 4 years, put about $1200 in that 4 yrs and got $800 when some douchebag rearended it pushing in the bumper about .5 inches. I never fixed it.

I had a few shitheaps, but they cost me $1000 or less so not sure that's a surprise.

Worst was my 06 Chevy Colorado, bought new and I don't beat my truck.

    U Joints at 40K

    6 cam actuators

The famous cylinder head failure at 78K..which was first supposed to be not under warranty till I found the TSB online, ended up costing me $2k for the head eating the timing chain and cam. Told the dealer if I see him again he's going to be beat to death, traded that heap in on my 2010 Tacoma

2005 Pontiac GTO. Fuck that piece of shit. With under 80,000 miles and 4 years of ownership I:

    - replaced the battery
    - went through 3 transmissions
    - replaced entire rear end pumpkin
    - went through 2 suspensions, and was still having problems when I got rid of it
    - rehauled and rebuilt the ignition cylinder
    - had fly by wire malfunctions regularly which would put it into limp home mode (like scary misfires limp home mode)
    - literally replaced every gasket minus the head gasket at least once (including the rear main) the valve cover gaskets twice
    - had the door locks plastic lock stripping out and since there was not a lock button everytime I had to unlock it I had to apply pressure right at the stripped area
    - repaired a junk window regulator retainer design
    - had an intermittently failing oxygen sensor
    - replaced entirely collapsed engine and transmission mounts

There is probably more but thats all I can think of for now. Did I mention my burning passion of hate towards GM because of this car? I wanted to burn this piece of crap to the ground so bad. I will never buy another GM product again.

Years ago, my daughter went behind my back and bought a Daewoo after we went to look at it and I told her it was a POS. She learned the hard way, I suppose. She was a young and dumb teenager then. Grew up to be a smart, beautiful young woman.
