Passenger Seat belt not working

So lately the front passenger seat belt isn't working on my 2011 Tacoma. It just doesn't snap in and comes right out... Yea, safety hazard. I have two possible reasons for what could be going on.

Last weekend my girlfriend left a pepsi in the truck, it was 118 degrees in Vegas and it exploded. It was in the cup holder behind my middle console, and it's highly likely some sticky soda got in the seatbelt attachment. My truck is spotless, and I was furious.

Or, or while I was steam cleaning it with a carpet cleaner some water got in there and messed something up. Do I just need to grease it up? Sometimes it works, other times it won't snap into place and safely secure. Any ideas?

 

The latch comes apart pretty easy. IM sure some sugar from the Cola is gumming up the latch.

A quick and easy way to clean it is to use some starting fluid AKA either. Spray it down good and flush the sugar out. You are essentially dry cleaning the latch. NO FLAMES.or smoking until all the smell is gone!

The either won't stain your interior, but try to blot up any excess with some old towels.

It doesn't need any grease.

 

So a little starter fluid will clean it right up and likely make it work again. Cool

 

I just got a letter from Toyota for a tsb for front driver and passenger seat belts... I never went for the rear either but one day I'll go. One day.

That's for the retractor not the latch. It could possibly fail and not catch in a sudden stop.

 

Damn I didn't even read it I thought it would have been the whole set up my bad

They also had one out for the rear of an access cab both sides

 

Might be under warranty, 60 months/60,000 miles. They replaced mine on the passenger side when it became intermittent. Not sure what caused it and the dealer didn't ask.
Either way, the part is $33.00 at the dealer, worth replacing for peace of mind.
