I seem to be confused about what fits with what.

Does the ribbed tailgate skin work in conjunction with the OEM skin?

^ Does this updated design apply to all orders or just that one order for that member?

When the tailgate skin is used together with the OEM cover, can the Mobtown tailgate cap be used as well?

    Thanks!

The ribbed skin will fit under the plastic piece, same pieces on plastic need to get trimimed off though. Just like the smooth one. The update has been made for all parts, not just the one order. The cap works with any skin and with or with plastic piece.

I haven't loaded a motorcycle but did have 500lbs of tubing directly in the center of the tailgate strapped down. Hung 4' out past the end of the tailgate and was bouncing down the interstate. No issues at all.

Flat. But the ribbed is 30% stronger.

Any 4th of July promotions? :)
Will shipping to a commercial address be cheaper than to a residential?

MAYBE... :spy::oldglory: Stayed tuned and check my products Friday morning.

Shipping cost don't change on these products. The only time shipping cost differ is on my rock sliders because I try to send them on a tractor trailer on a pallet. I get charged $100 extra if they go to a house and not a business.

i installed my plate the other day, and it feels way sturdier. I actually received it with a bent corner, but i just bent it back and all good.

I like running the flat one so you can put the original plastic back over it. Also used the new hardware instead of the plasticware that came on truck. Very sturdy and now don't worry about climbing in and out of the bed or just having a couple of people sitting on it on occassion at beach or camping or riding.

I am sure these questions have been answered here already but time is short at the moment and I don't have time to crawl through all 10 pages.

I am looking at the ribbed version. I would like to install this with the tailgate top cap. I am not interested in keeping the OEM plastic plate and cap. Will I have to drill anything or can I use the existing hardware? What size sockets will I need to use the OEM hardware? How heavy is the plate and trim? After completition, will I be able to safely load a 450lb motorcycle into the bed?

No drilling required, all you'll need is a T30 torx bit to remove factory hardware. If you're loading a motorcycle I recommend using our included hardware package which does require you to drill tailgate. But you'll never see it and it doesn't cause issues, just makes it that much stronger. I can send installation instructions before purchase if you wsnt to consider it.

Completed my barstool mod today. Looks great, fits perfectly. I had already installed a Pop & Lock code-able tailgate handle on my truck, and when I had the OEM skin off for that installation, I was surprised at how flimsy the tailgate construction is. I think the tailgate's gonna be much more durable now.

Had a REALLY hard time seating the threaded steel rivets (which I like better than the factory plastic "nuts"), took me about two hours and a trip to Home Depot for a couple of 1/4"-20 grade 8's to pull the rivets down. The included 1/4" bolt that came with the installation hardware was too soft and the head rounded off about the second into the fifteen rivets required. The grade 8's held up much better, but it was still a bitch gettin em tight; I'm looking at my beat up knuckles as I type this. I might have had an easier time of it had I used a six point 7/16" socket, but The Depot didn't have any, and all I had in the tool chest was a twelve. Didn't object to the force required to squash the rivets, but it was frustrating trying to keep the 7/16" on the small head while applying that much torque; don't know if there's such a thing as a tall head on a hex bolt, but that would make an ideal tool for the installation. Maybe even a heavy hex, but I don't think they're made that small. Also would have been easier if I'd had someone helping by backing me up with the 1/2", so I could use both hands on the 7/16".

Didn't use the supplied plated button-head machine screws to fasten the very nicely finished steel skin to the tailgate; I got fifteen black oxide alloy button-heads from a hardware store, and spray painted washers to use with them, cause I thought they'd look better. The alloys will probably rust though, so I'm gonna get a pack of black-oxide 18-8 stainless steel button-heads from McMaster-Carr. Maybe they have stainless washers in a black-oxide too, don't know. As soon as my Snugtop is installed, I'll look at the hatch/tailgate seal and consider getting Mobtown's Tailgate Cap, cause I think the steel cap would add even more end to end rigidity to the tailgate.

I'm not reinstalling the OEM skin over the top of the steel; I like the utility of the flatter surface on the Mobtown skin, and also think it looks a lot better than the original. I'm really happy with my purchase.

I'm sorry you had to fight the threaded inserts. I fought mine too but they did go in. Just worked really slow to avoid breaking things.
