    Replace for (I'd bet) $60 - $100. easy peasy

downshift instead of riding the brakes. also easy

Sure, you use the transmission to help slow you down...As long as you are going 45mph or slower. Don't do this going 70.

We just got to the camp ground. Doing our camping after the holiday was a smart move.

It always amazes me how few Toyota's there are here in the tri-cities of Michigan. 200 lots and not 1 Tacoma or Tundra besides ours.

I vote for just changing the rotors. You have a 50/50 chance of there being enough metal left to machine off. Once machined, you will have a higher probability of them rewarping. With all the hills you have, better safe than sorry.

Everyone knows what's worse than a car that won't start? A car that won't stop.

    HA!! Excellent point buddy!!

Your camp set up looks sweet!! Great idea to go after the holiday. I was thinking that on our way home, as we attempted to dodge traffic and saw all these cool places emptying out. Definitely doing that approach next year!! :)

    You doing any fishing?

Side note - I have to say, I suggested this to Eric. He said it was a bad idea. Yep, I'm gloating  just a little though :D

The newer automatic transmissions will actually do this for you.

Freaked me out the first time it happened as I was used to autos basically being in "freefall" down a steep hill.

My tacoma, if I use the brakes on a descent, will downshift on it's own and hold that lower gear until I touch the gas again.

When I have a steep descent, I will also brake hard (watching for people behind me) and let off completely rather than hold the brakes and build up crazy amounts of heat.

Most people do ride the brakes though. If you open your windows at the bottom of a really steep hill you can smell all the brakes cooking.

I guess it keeps the brake shops in business...

He doesn't ride them, I probably didn't describe very well. He does what you described, braking hard then letting off to sort of pump them rather than just lay into them non stop. It's just a ton of steep downhill when we go over there, and he said these rotors are kinda old, so it's not a huge shock that they might be toast. Just glad we didn't run into any problems from it! :)

    No fishing. My best fri
Nope. My best friend has my boat...I'm not even sure where it is. I'm thinking the End of next week I might do some fly fishing. The colder water will feel great on my knee. I tried this out 6 years ago when I had the first knee done. The spring fead streams have colder water and it really helps keep the swelling to a minimum. It was a good move then, I don't see why it wouldn't apply this time.

Tundra gave up the ghost. Had to bring in the big guns to haul the camper.

Just kidding, wife wanted "her" truck for running around in, so she ran the Tundra home and grabbed "her"? Truck. I think I've lost the Tacoma. I did too good of a job putting it back together and can't keep her from driving it. I guess she now has 2 tacomas' and I have a Tundra. Oh, well, she keeps me fead and watered and takes me for a walk every night.

And if you are wondering, it's cocktail hour:)

I gotta meet her someday, sounds like she and I would have lots in common with "our" Tacomas :)

Also, love your outlook on it - keeping ya fed, watered, and walked - sounds like ya both got a pretty sweet deal to me, nice job you guys!

By the way, SWEET looking Taco @koditten !!!!!

Gonna post some vacation pics of our recent eastern Oregon Taco adventures. So you guys will get to see the topper! But it's dirty in the pics, and still needs the paint touch ups in a few tiny areas. If I ever actually finish them, I'll get better topper pics for ya. Eventually. :D

    Not really

Sounds like my younger days when dating. Spend all evening, wining and dining a pretty lady...at the end of the night get the "that was a nice evening and you are such a nice guy"

You know this ain't going anywhere...Still early enough to get some serious drinking done.

Just arrived at the trailhead, Taco's job is done and it's time for our asses to start working, ugh. I prefer riding in the Taco :)

When starting a long/difficult hike, I look back at it as we walk away and think, "I'm gonna be SO GLAD the next time I see you, Taco :D"
