    Hey guys,

So this past weekend I drove down to the shore and no lights on my dash were on. The day after I came back ABS light came on when I started the truck up on the way to work. It was dry out that morning, but it rained that night. Today, the light came on again when I started the truck up, and it rained last night a little bit as well.

I have had it come on when it is wet, or snowy out, but my question is if it is dry outside like today what could be causing it? And how do I fix it?

    thanks

Check the code, if it comes back as 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, or 36 the sensor or teeth are probably dirty. Remove the sensor, wipe off any crud and look in the hole. I used a little flat head screwdriver to clean the gunk out from between the teeth.

    Code list.

You have to check it when the light is on and you can't get them with a regular cel code reader.
But if it's intermittent during wet times I can almost promise that one is dirty. Probably water and dirt getting by a dry o-ring on the sensor.

They are easy to take out.
Front: Remove the wheel and you can see it on the hub. They are only held in by one bolt, then wiggle the sensor out. Just pulls straight out.

Rear: remove the wheel and you can see the sensor. The rears can be unplugged at the sensor so do that to avoid any wire strain. Then pull them straight out.

Once out wipe the end off with a rag and get any little metal flakes. Look in the hole and clean between the teeth with a little screwdriver.

Grab a few new rubber o-rings if yours look bad or came out rough.

Okay, so I looked at the sensors and they looked fine. Rubber was good, any metal specks that were there I cleaned out. However my ABS light is still on :( Not sure what to do?

I'm not sure where your OBD port is, as I think the location changed after a certain year. BUT, mine is below the steering wheel.

Grab a paper clip and jump connectors 13 and 4 with the truck turned off.

    images_7916b98c018b5372d3d076da485ecbec04db3553.jpg

Turn the truck on and watch the ABS light. It will blink for 2 numbers with a pause in between. Ex 5 blinks-pause-1 blink = code 51. Once you have the code, then you can start somewhere.

Like snowman said, a regular OBD scanner won't pick up the ABS codes.

I had this issue a few years back and I wasn't getting any codes. I took it to a local Toyota mechanic who unplugged the rear ABS sensors, blew them out with air and plugged them back in. The ABS service light went out and hasn't come back on since.

Paper clip safe to use as a jumper wire? I also noticed the fuse cover had a crack in it, but the actual fuse looks fine. Could this be a source of my problem?

Alright, so I used the paperclip today, tried to reset the ABS and it still threw the code. I got a 34 code, indicating the left wheel sensor. I already checked the sensors, made I should just check that one again?

I would check it again. Make sure it's clean as well as the plug. Then follow the wire back to see if there is any visible damage.
Worst case a replacement rear sensor isn't super expensive.

Welp, I cleaned the sensor again. Nothing, still throwing code 34. I did follow the wire and I didn't see anything abnormal. I am guessing the sensor is dead? I dont know what else to try.

    Seems that way.
Throwing a code for a bad sensor. You cleaned and inspected the line and sensor which didn't work, so a new sensor is the next logical step.

Or you can puta meter on the sensor and see if it gives you a reading. Also you could put it in and turn the wheel with the meter on ac and see if it give you a reading while spinning the wheel by hand. Only reason I know is because I am trouble shooting also.
