I use the P3 in my truck as well. I originally mounted it with Velcro temporarily to make sure I liked the placement before drilling holes. It has worked so well the last four years it still just gets velcro'ed on while towing and stored outside the vehicle (in the house) when not in use (had the last one stolen out of the glove box).

Here is what I tow. It weights somewhere around 4k lbs ready to camp.

I'm looking for a trailer that is pretty much all sleeping space. Meaning no stove, sink, table, toilet, etc. Does anybody make something like this?

Yep. Kodiak Express 166E. The beauty of it is it has a 52 gallon fresh water tank, about twice that of comparable 18-20 foot models. You can stay offgrid for a long time with a 52 gallon fresh water tank, 2kW generator, four gallons of gas, inverter on the truck, and four LP tanks. Kodiak has the full enclosed underbelly with sprayfoam filler to protect the tanks from freezing. Has the big 6.3 cubic foot double door fridge/freezer.

IMO the Kodiak 166E and 172E are unbeatable for short trailers. We couldn't live with tiny 16-20 gallon fresh water tanks and single 20lb LP tanks. Single 20lb LP tanks go fast, same as 16 gallons of fresh water. 52 gallons of fresh water was the dealmaker.

Good info, thanks for the reply, where all did you travel to? Any steep inclines?
Any problems with the truck? Also do you have 4x4

Sorry for all the questions haha
    Thanks

I had a Kamparoo weekender (Austrailian offroad style). Great light trailer. It had no brakes and towed very easily.

I am now upgrading to a Chalet/Aliner style offroad trailer. Again, very lightweight but they have a fridge and other nice amenities.

I have an '89 Coleman tent trailer with a 10ft box and used to pull it with my 2002 Tacoma X-Cab with a 2.4 4cyl and a five speed manual. The trailer weighs 1,250lbs empty, and does not have trailer brakes. I pulled it from CA to NC and back in 2003 and never had a problem, though there was one steep grade in UT on a two-lane road that worried me a bit. I got 17-18 mpg pulling the trailer, and had my mountain bike on a Yakima roof rack on the truck. I'd like to get another Tacoma because mine was totaled in May when I was rear ended, but the 2014 Tacoma that I recently test drove had a 4cyl - auto and it seemed like a gutless pig and it was totally empty. The newer trucks seem a lot bigger (and probably heavier) than my 2002 was.

The V6 would be better for towing but I don't take the trailer out too much anymore, and I need to get the best mileage in everyday driving.
Would the 2.7 4 cyl be ok for my trailer? It just seemed underpowered.

I have a Livin Lite 21RBS. It has all aluminum frame, floors, etc. and no wood so it's dry weight is 3,500. I run ride rite air bags, Andersen WD hitch, P3 controller and it tows just fine. MPG takes a hit though as it runs 10-12 depending on speed. Below is a picture when it was first bought.

If you're looking at only sleeping space then a TAB might work for you.

I second the A frame style for those looking for just sleeping quarters. They make different styles of them for those looking to have a small sink of stove top. I pull mine with zero issues. I didn't go with the a liner brand. I went with Rockwood since it was quite a bit cheaper. A little heavier but it was also a little more wide. I'll post a pic if anyone is interested but it's a Rockwood A122S.

Nice trailer. :) It makes my '89 Coleman Sequoia tent trailer look sick.

I tried to get the best overall picture with e-brake, obd-II, and the cable harness from the P3 all included in the picture. Solid white wire is ground and the red, white and blue wires are the P3 harness that lead up to the factory port (please note I have factory V6 tow package). It is a tight fight in there. Toyota hid well. Good luck.

I tow in 4, seems to be the sweet spot for hills. My trailer is no more than 3000 lbs. beefed up the leaf from a local shop which added a two inch lift to my rear the end result extra hauling capacity.

I use a this trailer brake controller

Build it! Lots of cool teardrop guys out there... Start with a surplus military frame and go wild! The problem with teardrops is there is only one bed. The guys I fish with are cool, but we ain't like that. Separate beds, no sword fights! My wife doesn't like me enough to get in there either... Definitely a single mans toy!
