Yeah definetely no buybacks but I think if you have 05-08 truck and planning to have truck for long time its better deal. With new frame you will get another 10 years out of that truck easily. Thats 10 years no need to buy new vehicle. Just pocket $200 a month for next 10 years and its going to be a fund for new truck

Just got my 2005 back from the frame swap. The dealer did not charge anything for my 2" front lift and rear air bags to be reinstalled. Also had a camper shell on my truck that they worked around. Toyota is supposed to put your truck back the way it was with no hassles.

I went down yesterday after speaking with a clueless DB for 20 minutes.
In 2 years I broke 2 leafs one on each side. I brought the truck to my local spring rebuilder who cut me metric spring, not an aal mind you I have blocks in the back. Anyway toyota thought i had aal's and was gonna charge me to take apart old leaf pack and put it in new leaf pack.
I cleared it up, kit is going back on. But now I'm fighting them to put my exhaust back on

The dealership I brought it to wasnt too busy, and I think there are 3 trucks ahead of mine, but they could be blowing smoke. My sales guy said there were 15 in total waiting to be replaced.

I suppose there ain't much we can do. To me they just really don't seem to care about the inconvenience of not having the truck for that long... oh well all we can do is wait and know we are getting a new truck back

By any chance does anyone know if they replace the LCA's?

Does anyone know how they test for soft spots? Do they just hit it with a BFH? I'm thinking after 9 years of living on an island in the middle of the North Atlantic where salt is used for about 6 months a year there has to be a soft spot somewhere. My frame looks worse than most posted here, but no visible holes yet.

image.jpg Yes, BFH. A good Tech will really lay into your frame looking for a weak spot.

Hell ya, my LCA bushings were going anyway...

ya they will tap the frame with a bfh, but most importantly they look in all the joints and welded areas -ie the mounts for the leaf springs, the sub frame welds, etc. that is where all the salt and corrosion sits, and rusts through. Mine had pin holes in all those areas. I've seen some videos on line of guys with 8'' holes through their main frame rails...no good!

I have spent a lot of time under mine, and didnt see that there was a weak spot. They found one a little bigger than the picture above next to the drivers side rear cat. Been waiting 3 months, got another 3 to go before I get the call they say. I'm just thankful they let me drive it while I wait.

That hole was a single hit but the cab and bed were already off the frame.

I took my 08 in for the frame recall yesterday, mine failed, thankfully they let me leave with it. Does anyone know exactly will be replaced ? I'm making up a list of parts to buy to have the truck put back together with. The odometer is setting at 115,000.

    So far I have,
    Upper Ball Joints
    Upper Control Arm Bushings
    Rack and Pinion Unit Bushings
Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends
    Motor Mounts
    Passenger Wheel Bearing Assembly
    Both Upstream O2 Sensors
    Both Radiator Hoses
    Front Brake Pads and Rotors
    Front 5100 Bilstein Shocks

Any other suggestions ? Thanks for any input.

They are going to charge you to put a lot of that back on.

Anything that they don't re and re will still cost you in labour.

Oh, that's not how the tech made it sound yesterday. lol If that's the case I'll probably revise the list. Probably just rack bushings, tie rod ends, upper ball joints and upper control arm bushings.

I've heard a few different versions. They aren't going to do anything for free. I had them put new upper control arms on but they had to move the old ones anyway.

If Toyota is paying 48 shop hours and the swap is done in much less time they could theoretically let Toyota pay for extra labour...
