Hello, I posted recently on the New Member section. I am new to the site as a proud owner of a slightly used Grey 2014 Tacoma 4x4 quad cab TRD Sport. I love reading the site and learning from all the knowledge here. I seem to notice on my truck that it seems fairly loud ( 4 cyl or sewing machine loud ) and also has a " creak " or metalic " eak " sound when I turn it off. My dealer says that's all normal and not worry since it's under warranty. I have driven others , all without these symptoms. Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. Peter

The "Tacoma Tic" it is 100% normal. The eak sound upon shut off is a smog pump the ticks are injector The 2.7 and 4.0 are just noisy engines Japanese engines tend to be. Might not have noticed before or not owned a Japanese desgined vehicle before.
They all make the smog pump sound the injector tick varies some are loud and some barely noticable.

Here's the typical sound yours might be a little louder or less loud.

Smog pump sounds more like an eak from inside the cab

Beyond that without better description it is hard to say. But I'm confident your hearing the usual Taco engine noises.

I have only ever owned Hondas or Toyotas.

2012+ v6's saw the introduction of the air injection pump which is the high pitched whine you are hearing.

I am pretty sure the I4's air injection pump started earlier than 2012.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Is it the sound of the engine cooling? Most of them make a ticking sound when they cool off from hot temperatures and the cold outside air hits the hot metal and makes a tick tick as it cools off.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Mine speaks my name softly and reassures me we'll kick ass again, tomorrow. Maybe check that the heat shield mounted to the body above the cat is secure.

Tacoma's do make noise but if you want to call the dealers bluff ask him to take a ride in yours and then a ride in a similar model off the lot. If the noise is not in his but is in yours it is not normal and logically he can't get around that.
