    No that is silly.

3rd gen will be better than 2nd gen like the 2nd gen is better than 1st gen.

The 2nd gen is a dinosaur and should have been replaced years ago.

Well you're right, it probably will be better...

...but maybe not at first. I think it's prudent rather than silly to maybe wait and see for that first year, anyway.

The proven track record and extensive aftermarket support are already there for 2nd gen. Not so for 3rd gen (yet).

You can always trade up later on if you see that they have it all worked out. But you won't be able to go back in time and get a new 2nd gen this time next year. That being said, I'm sure the 3rd gen is a fine vehicle and will be going forward. Who knows, they may have improvements by 2018 that will make you wish you had waited a couple of years. Hindsight will always be 20/20.

I didn't buy a 2015 bc I hated the appearance of the 2016, I bought it because I'd rather have the last year of a model run than the first.

I think the 2016 will be solid mechanically (I would expect a few minor issues initially). It is Toyota after all and I don't think they want to fall on their face with a new model they are highly touting (especially after 10 years of the same generation). I bought the 2007 Tundra... major step change for Toyota to --finally-- a true full size truck. No problems whatsoever in 8 years of ownership. I purchased it August 2007 and I did hear of a few minor bugs that had to be worked out between the initial release in Fall of 2006 and mid-2007 when I bought mine. I will enjoy my 2015 for now and, if in a couple years, the 3rd gen turns out to be a gem, I will sell my (highest resale value) Tacoma and purchase a model year 2017 or 2018.

I bought a 2015 because I've always heard that you should never buy the first model year due to reliability issues. We shall see.

Exactly. None of my vehicles have ever been to a mechanic and this forum helps me continue the trend. Why go 2016 if it's 2015 and you need a truck?

It wasn't the appearance of the 2016 (I actually have not yet seen one), but because I didn't want to have to wait for 2016 aftermarket accessories to be readily available.

Yep. 2016 is ugly, new engine, no TRD supercharger option and it's the first of a new model year (bugs).

What good would a valet key do? No lock on the glovebox (or the bed). A valet key is supposed to provide ignition only while leaving your other things secure... Yeah, just two keys.

LOL...He'll be able to drive it by himself in August, when he gets his license. That's how bad I hate the looks of the 2016...I bought him a 2015 before he could even drive it. LOL I even lifted it 3" with Icons and put 285s on it for him.

Couldn't wait for the extra room of a 4dr with baby on the way, also.... not a fan of the 16 look.
