It seems every article about the new Tacoma has to mention that the truck includes this 50 cent mount. It's a PR image booster, appealing to the "active lifestyle" seekers than anything else. For a buck or two, you too can add one of these stick on mounts to any vehicle. My experience with several different generations of GoPro is the battery life is short. A USB outlet near the GoPro mount would have been a very useful addition to this gimmickry to plug in a dash cam camera, or even a GoPro.. but it's not to be..

Does anyone actually care about the mount?

I agree that this is a pretty stupid thing to get all hyped up about especially when Toyota is skimping on some quality interior accessories like power seats, rear view mirror compass, etc.

I don't. And it's pretty ridiculous that a google search of "2016 tacoma" returns mostly articles like, "OHMERGAWD 2016 TACOMA HAS GOPRO MOUNTZ!!!"

Yeah let me know when Toyota puts something actually important in there. Like a refrigerated glove box for my beer.

PS I'm so patenting that idea none of yall better try to steal it.

I wonder if anyone has tried to make a cooler out of their glove box for realz though. Seriously the convenience on long drives.

In your under-the-seat lock box silly. The cops know to check the glove compartment for stuff.

It's inexpensive to add your own gopro mount/s with those cheap stick-on mounting clip. I've had past success tacking them to windshields and dashes without any damage to either.

The problem with a built-in mount is that the whole point of a gopro would be to capture a bunch of different angles. If you're really looking for good video, you're better off using a suction mount or a clamp mount and getting some interesting perspectives, than have 100% front-facing footage.

I think it's a great security feature to have a dash cam. But in reality if I don't get one with the truck, I'm not the type to rush out and buy one. Don't know much about them, but if I have a cord in front of my face or one meandering around my dash then it's a no go for the go pro

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I think it's a novelty add-on, and definitely a revenue-boosting partnership between the two companies. Hell, since GoPro went public, I wouldn't be surprised if the share-holders were pushing for partnerships like this, disregarding the actual "need" or market for these features. Maybe some top Toyota Execs are share-holders who are looking to supplement their already fat wallets.

    I thought this was interesting:

"The camera isn’t included, but don’t be surprised if Toyota dealers start throwing them in as deal sweeteners."

I guarantee we will be seeing this at dealers across the US. These "Free Gift" gimmicks have been employed by tons of companies.

GoPro's cheapest advertising campaign in history!! They're getting a lot of free publicity out of that 50 cent mount.

    https://thenewswheel.com/2016-toyota-tacoma-will-have-a-gopro-mount/

How many articles have that in their headline? Every time I see something about the new Tacoma, they're sure to mention that gimmick. Awesome journalism!

It looks like you can buy those GoPro mounts in bulk, 36 cents a piece and turn your Gen 1, Gen 2 or any vehicle into a Gen 3 Tacoma-like GoPro mount equipped vehicle. Wow!!
