    2016 Tacoma?
    Hey Ya'll,

I am strongly considering a 2016 Tacoma. My daughter is about to move from Memphis to Virginia and we are looking to possibly tow a 6X12 Uhaul behind us.

Simply put will the 2016 Taco have adequate towing capacity for a long 15 hour trip?

    Thanks

    Denicio

(PS I currently own a 2014 Mazda 3 that I will be trading)

How much will the trailer weigh when fully loaded? What route are you planning?

That's a good question. It will be full of furniture so I am guessing somewhere in the 2000-3000 lbs range. I understand that 6x12 is a tad heavy too.
As for route, as much interstate as I can muster. Once I hit east TN the mountains kick in.

I have a 2015 V6 with tow package. I drove 2 months ago from Chicago, IL to Asheville, NC towing a 6x12 uhaul. I guesstimate I had a total of 4,000 lbs behind me. The drive took about 14 hours. I had no problems going up hills in KY, TN or NC. If you keep it around 60 mph in 4th (auto transmission) you would have no problems.

I'm not sure you posted this question in the right place. Like Rock Lobster said, "The 2016 isn't even out yet".

2016 doesn't even exist right now  But supposedly the 2016 will have little bit more towing capacity.

I say this man posted in the right forum. It's the first question we have had in a long time that actually refers to the 2016 vehicle

Its a 6x12 uhaul, probably a double axle as well which would make it better as long as its not loaded over the max. Simple answer

Look up the specs of the 2015. Determine what trim level you are going to buy and look at the tow rating for it. Not all Tacomas have the same towing capacity (or a tow package).
It's safe to assume the 2016 will be nearly identical to the capacities of the 2015.

Although I feel like if you want to buy a car... you should already know how to gather this essential info. Or know it already

Dude your anal, quit looking into things so hard. Its a 6800*** lb towing capacity its a little trailer and I don't think OP would load 10k in a 6x12 uhaul trailer. Geezuz

It will be more than fine. I drove 3900km across Canada with one of those trailers, full to the top and 2dirtbikes in the box of a 190hp v6 chevy S10. Go slow on big downhills or trailer can get swapping side to side. Not cool.

    2016 Tacoma?
Wow, what an interesting group of forum members.................

Yes, I am fully aware its not out. Uh, this forum is for the Gen 3 (2016) so do believe I am in the right place.

Being members of Audio forums (recording) and other such forums many of the long time members sometimes are freaks (like me) and research the phooey out of the new upcoming products. I have not reached the END of the internet info on the 2016 Tacoma but thought I'd post here in case someone has read some preliminary info and could further comment. For those that have replied with information I do appreciate you helping me out. This will be my first truck and towing capacity and its math is all new to me. I figured the 2016 would be comparable to the 2015 but again some of the 'towing math' is new to me. Hearing from members that have towed in a similar Tacoma is very helpful...Thanks!

Toyota has been candid with the details of the 2016. Bits and pieces are very slowly leaking out but they haven't yet outright released any official information to the public other than it will exist. But from what has come out I think it is safe to say that towing ability is going to be on par with the 2nd gen truck. The 2nd gen with the tow package is rated at 6500lbs so the 3rd gen should be right around there. If your trailer is going to be around 4k loaded you be well within the rating, as long as you have the tow package. Read this thread if you haven't yet https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-tacoma-towing-bible.4031/ Lots of stuff in there is applicable to any vehicle.

If I can tow a 7x12 v nose with 6.5 interior height with my 2002 4runner, you can tow a 6x12 with a truck that makes significantly more power. My trailer is about 3100 lbs loaded. I can maintain 65mph at 2900 rpm, usually about 10-12 mpg.

    I'm confident you'll be fine.

And yes, I have trailer brakes :)

For a one time move you'll be fine.

If you are going to pulling it often, I would step up to a half ton.

(speaking from a guy who used to tow for a living)
