Hey guy's and wow, a month ago I decided I was going to buy a 1st gen Tacoma 4X4 either transmission and would like a 6cyl with TRD. Have been looking and these things are hard to find and if I do find one they seem to be priced way out of normal price range. I have got this damn car lot in KC to come down to $10,900 but still seems a little steep. What do you think?

Looks very clean with relatively low miles. My brother just bought an '01 for the same price, with slightly more miles. I would say it's a fairly decent price if its truly as clean as it looks.

IMO, wait and let the right truck find you. For the $ I just don't feel it. [IMG] 7k, I'd feel it.

They need you more than you need them. F 'em and forget it. In my experience right around when you have totally given up in your search the right truck will find you. Relax and enjoy the 11k in your pocket. Cheers!

Where you guys finding tacos so cheap? Lol. 7k for that around here people would be fist fighting for lol. That's a good price IMO for the condition its in.

I paid $6,800 for mine, same setup with 120k in 2009. But that was before tacos shot up in price and popularity. I found one here that was better off getting crushed and offered 3,500 and they blew me off and wholesaled it off to Mexico.

I looked pretty much nation wide for 6 months for a taco like OP posted, never saw any prices like you guys are quoting. O P if the Taco is as clean as it appears you won't get one any cheaper. Mine is a 01, 3.4, TRD, clean but not imaculate, 155k miles, $10,500, feel lucky to have found it.001.jpg

Wait until the 31st of this month. The price you gave them might not make sense now but will make sense then when they need to meet their quota at the end of the month. I had 3 dealers call me back at the last day of the month and told me they are ready to negotiate again but if it's only going to be today.

If you get nothing then it's not the truck for you.

Wow, it is amazing. I have been a GM mechanic my entire life and recently we opened a shop so we work on everything. But I noticed quickly that Toyota's usually only needed maintenance. So I decided a Tacoma was the truck for me. I sold my Tahoe and S-10 and thought I would go right out and pick up a nice Ext cab 4X4 with lower miles, not so easy. Where are all of the trucks at? And why on earth do they sell for so much.

If you are wanting to get a first gen tacoma then I would be ready to pay some money for sure. Everyone wants a tacoma which is why they are fetching high prices. Good luck with your search

^ true that. End of the month quotas are the used car salesperson's quest. They will dive at least 5-10% more to get that money. And lets face it, they already have it marked up since the used car is always profit.

The only thing to worry about the first gen is frame rust and lower ball joints. That's about it.

I spent over a year trying to get the right truck. After many attempts and setbacks and having to deal with overpriced bullshit I found one for a reasonable enough price. 160,700 miles for 6.5k

It aint easy, but you gotta keep tryin. I turned down so many dealers and got accused of low-balling and being unreasonable but I stuck to my guns because I recognize that the value of a vehicle isn't what a bank will give you for it on a loan, it's what you as the consumer are willing to pay for it. Sad, many Tacos sell for way too much because folk are desperate to get their hands on em! Why you think so many first gens are still listed above 20k??
