Agreed but it felt super slow. I asked the sales rep if I had it in 4wd or something. But it was in D. I rent a ton of cars, SUVs for work, too.

So the first leak is 261 tq @ 4600 rpm is a little more than I figured so considering the 270 hp, 261 tq is good .... Obviously from the title I'm not happy with that I'm looking for 300 tq that's why I want a new 4.0 but the new regs know best.... I have some mods to my engine that makes the new one a down grade but if your engine is stock should and you don't mind the extra rpm it will be a good engine and with the better gearing and fuel injection it will run good.... Like I said for a daily driver it will be good...

But this sucks, after 10 years a lateral move and no more power than a Honda, one of the reasons to get the Tacoma/4runner is more power over all the 3.5s.... Well the 2010 only has 52K...... I'll have to drive one but I think I'm going to keep getting parts.......

If people buying Tacoma just because QDR and reliability than they have some issues. Corolla is better purchase. I bought Tacoma because it was a truck... If I wanted QDR and reliability I would have gotten Honda.
People are not getting advertised mileage on Tacoma either, and majority will not get on 2016 either because of the gearing. People don't know how to drive, they don't know cars so they have no clue how to drive them properly or maintain them properly.

Quality slipped after NUMMI was closed, and Toyota stopped importing engines and transmissions for our trucks from Japan.

The vast majority of Tacoma 1GRs have been built at TMMAL. That facility has been open since 2001, so it is safe to say that almost everyone on here with a gen 2 has a U.S. built engine. Alabama was basically only truck engines up until 2008ish.

Transmissions come from AWNC in North Carolina. AWNC even exports to Japan plants so some FJs, 4Runners, and Prados have AWNC 5ATs. I don't recall if they exported the Tundra 6AT for Land Cruiser (200). Forgot to ask that when I was there.

So if we want something reliable we need to buy a Ridgeline or Corolla?

I want a reliable truck. To be honest, other than my experience with Ram, everything else out there is pretty good for reliability. It's not just Toyota quality falling off. The competition has been catching up.

The way I work trucks the Ridgeline would be in the shop 24/7. The Corolla's I've been around have had rattles and issues the same as any other small crap box car. I have no idea why you need to run your mouth all the time on here about quality like somehow you've put every vehicle through it's paces, you run a mechanics shop, and you've seen every issue that every vehicle has. You haven't, and the data you do present is full of shit.

You rant a few pages back about how you predicted 270 HP and 261 ftlbs of torque, but anyone who reads even a few pages back see's rants where you quote "less than 250 ftlbs of torque".

Most people just follow the service manual. Which, whatever brand you buy, is just about the same for every truck now. Most of the issues where someone needs to know more, like whether a sequel is a major failure or just a sign of age, occur on higher mileage vehicles that have no relevance to a 2016 Toyota Tacoma conversation, but as usual you decided to bounce all over the place to try and mention at least one thing that sounds right.

Aren't Duramax motors made by Isuzu though?

And? I'd rather have a Japanese engine than an American engine

I think these Duramax engines are made in Thailand. The 3.5 will be made in the US.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
If this engine is based off of the 2GR-FSE (on the Ward's top ten engine list multiple years in a row), its good enough for me.

Cool. I didn't think it would get 700 pounds more towing capacity vs the V6. Little 4 cylinder putting the V6 van motor in its place. Very interesting vehicle for sure. It's really nice that these manufacturers are putting out some new stuff and forcing each other to get better. When all the contenders are released (Frontier, Ridgeline, Tacoma, Colorado) I will take a hard look at all of them and it'll probably be a tough choice on what to get.

I knew it would get more towing. It makes 369 ft lbs at 2,000 rpm. That is superb.

    2016 POSTURD

If the 2016 is close in price to the 2015, that puts the no-frills 4x4 LT model at ~$36,680. I don't know if they plan on increasing the base price for 2016 tho. But, a turbo diesel at ~$40k OTD...not too bad. If Chevy had comparable reliability to Toyota, I'd be all over it.
