Debating on whether or not to put a 3" suspension lift on my truck and was wondering what the average price is for a shop to put a this lift on an 02 Taco. I'm new to the truck world and am thinking about having this done, but the local shop wants $1200 for the kit + installation. Also, would I need to purchase new shocks/struts for this lift? The ones on my truck are the stock ones and they are pretty well shot (148k miles on them), so since I'm still thinking about getting the lift I need to know will replacement stock shocks/struts would work. I plan on doing a little off-roading, but nothing too extreme as this truck may be handed down to my son in a couple of years.
    Thanks

One can never have too many light bars.
What does the kit include? You would think that included new shocks.

The guy said that the kit included just the spacers and if I wanted shocks/struts that would be another $300.

That's wayyy too much man. I got my kit for just shy if $600 and install was $475. That was for 5100s all around, an AAL and OME 887 coils and an alignment. Do not spend $1200 for a spacer lift.

I thought $1200 was too much. What would a good lift kit cost? I'm not looking to go off-roading at any more than an amateur level. Looking for a good 3" lift kit that includes shocks/struts.

^^^ You can't go wrong with OME (Old Man Emu) suspension -- sounds like it would be perfect for what you're looking to do. The link above is for a full 3" lift kit, including brand new rear leaf packs. You may or may not need to do full rear leaf replacement and may opt for just an AAL solution. Highly recommend giving Wheeler's Offroad a call -- excellent customer service and very knowledgeable about the Tacoma platform.

Its not the lift that kills you, its the new tires and wheels that are the big $$$.

It's going to be a money pit either way you go. Just give up on not spending too much...it's going to happen. Welcome to Tacoma World. I bought my truck for hauling scuba gear...I'm not going to mod it I said. I'm only going to replace the shocks I said.

    Oh I
oh I'm going to mod it if I end up keeping it for myself; depends on if my step-son's biological father actually keeps his word and buys him his first car. If he falls through (as usual) it'll be his first car and I'll find another to buy and mod. If he keeps his word then I'll go ape shit on this one. Either way it's a win-win for all of us!

Hahaha. I love my father but he promised my mother when we were young to pay for our college in agreement to not increase/fight child support, my mom struggled, and guess what I'm still paying student loans.

I hate that for you bro. I see it in my boys eyes when the sperm donor disappoints him again and again and I just want to go work deadbeat dad over for a little while. I hope he comes through, but my boy already loves the truck and can't wait to get his license next year. Guess we'll see

Don't get a spacer lift. Get the OME lift and enjoy.

put this lift on my truck. my buddy worked at a toyota dealership at the time so the labor was free. it's doable outside of a shop but your truck may be down for more than a day while figuring everything out. you do have to remove the leaf springs to drill out and replace the rear shackle bushings, but if your determined you can do it while it's still on the truck. make sure you have spring compressors for the front while you add the spacer! otherwise it's just a real pain..

well worth it! came across lots of big rocks while crawling around southern california. especially around berdoo canyon/pinkham canyon and in ocatillo wells. 10/10 when it came to cost vs utility.

    *edit*

the front shocks stay stock but I had to get longer shocks for the rear. i think i ended up getting 4wd shocks for a late 80s toyota pickup and they worked great :p NAPA part number 37032

total cost was just under $200. plus the gas it took to enjoy the off road experience ^.^
