Well it's with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to my Taco. I hit another car a few weeks ago (stupid and I'm still kicking myself about it) and found out over the weekend that the insurance company is taking her from me. They got my hopes up, tore into her to start fixing things, then found enough more damage that it was a total loss. This was all it took:

    0621151537_zpsavozwrnp_f0ce6fbc1a6b849de98e4508d7afc50fe6a96398.jpg

The insurance company was actually working with me to try to not total it, but the frame rust made the shop too leary of trying to pull the frame for fear of it breaking. Frame rust is also why I'm not buying it back. It'd be pretty easy to fix, but I found out that with a rebuilt title the frame rust warranty is no longer honored. And she was pretty close to getting a new frame.

Still waiting to see how much we get from the insurance company, but the hunt is on for her replacement! Although no truck can really replace her, I'm excited to finally get a 4x4 haha.

Testament to Toyotas holding their resale... Bought it in November of 2009 with 60k miles on it for just a shade under $10k (I think it was like 9950 or something) and just got the settlement check for $9043, 6 years later with 130k miles on it.

That sure dulls the pain of losing her haha

Yes. Gonna check one out today and there's a few more around here I've found. That's the one good thing about totaling your truck in Nevada, much less rust than the one's I've found back in the midwest.

Glad to hear you are going to stay with a Tacoma. Good luck with your search for a 4x4. I know it can definitely be a pain finding a good one.

Likely won't be a Tacoma, sorry I misunderstood you. I haven't found much for Tacos out here in my price range. But I'm trying to at least stay Toyota!

I understand yours had a little mishap too... What came of that?

Yeah definitely a bummer.I knew the only way I'd ever get rid of her was by wrecking her, I just wish it wasn't this soon. And I'm pissed it was 100% my fault

did you even check with Toyota first? you should have free frame replacement through Toyota frame rust warranty and that makes it a cheap fix for the accident damage so no reason what so ever to total it or let them take it.

check on getting a new frame for free before waving the white flag here

I checked. A rebuilt title voids the frame warranty. I was forced to file a claim to fix the other guy's car anyway, so in looking at mine they decided to total it.

wait, your saying your truck, "before you wrecked it", had a rebuilt or salvage title? if so then yes you are SOL

if not, they you are getting ahead of yourself here, your not letting the insurance get it fixed first, your having Toyota replace the frame on a legit titled vehicle that still qualifies for free frame replacement and then only when they are done, then you have the insurance company estimate what repairs are still needed for it.

the accident needs to be addressed only after the warranty frame issue is resolved, and just because you had a wreck does not cancel your free frame replacement because of rust but if you let them retitle the truck as rebuilt/salvaged then it will void you Toyota frame warranty

The frame wasn't perforated yet, And I highly doubt if you towed a tacoma in to a dealer and said "here, replace the frame" that they would do it.

Regardless, the truck is already gone. I was at the insurance company's mercy as soon as we filed a claim.

yes they would have, damaged condition doesn't matter, even a bent frame, doesn't matter, all that matters is that the frame has rusted through and you get a new frame.

sorry to hear you made such a big mistake but, if you don't know, you don't know, like you said, its done and over with now

The only mistake I'd say I made was not reaching out to the other guy quicker to see what his repairs would be to pay them out of pocket.

Got her replacement this weekend. Unfortunately All the Tundras I looked at were beat to shit. So I'm trying a domestic out... although I miss my taco I do like having a V8 and 4wd

Nice truck man! I had the same thing, but in a Silverado variant. 4.8L or 5.3L?

gmfullsize.com was the place to go back in the day, not sure if its still any good or not.

I believe you can fit 285's with just the torsion bar keys.
