Do I have to remove my skid plate to change my oil and filter on my 2011 4WD?

    Thanks!

Too poor to list anything interesting.
The filter is up top. And the bolt is below.

You do not have to remove it. Unless you have an aftermarket one that blocks access to the drain hole.

I used to have a 2008 with the 2.7 and I didn't have to remove anything to change the oil.

I was told my filter is on the bottom of my 2.7l?

It's on the passenger side up near the exhaust manifold. You have to access it from under the truck. You can see it through the right front wheel well.

If you go with fumoto shop around, I had best OTD price from quik valve. Try code " speed15 ", may get you small discount.

I don't see the need for the valve on the 2.7l since you will have to crawl under the truck regardless. If you go the after market IFS skid plate route you will need to remove it.

No you wont have to remove the skid, unless the aftermarket doesnt have an access hole for the drain bolt. Most of them do though, and if I got one that didnt I would put a hole in it.

Access to the oil filter will be the same with/out the skid. If you do the filter right you wont ever need a filter wrench either.

And the part about having to crawl under the truck regardless for the 2.7l makes no sense. The drain for the v6 pan is under the truck too, so you will have to crawl under the truck whether its 4 or 6cyl fumoto valve or not.

No. What I'm saying is with after market skids they will have to be removed to access the oil filter on the 2.7l. I have a AP IFS skid and it only has a hole for the oil drain plug.

That must be a really wide skid then. I can reach and grab my oil filter with mine on. Its fun twisting off a hot filter one handed, but not as much as pulling the skid.

Just checked and I have ato skid.

You're right, after looking at it I might be able to get my hand on the filter without pulling the skid. Looks tight though.

Sorry if my OP wasn't clear but with the v6 you could do a oil pump type device and never have to get under the truck, no? If the 2.7l had the filter under the hood that's what I would do for making oil changes easy in my apartment parking lot.

It is tight, but its a hell of a lot easier than pulling the skid everytime. I change my oil every two months on average. Have never used one of the suction devices for getting the oil out of the pan, but have seen my mother do it for her car. Ill get on my back, and it gives me chance to check stuff/grease. With the lift I dont even need ramps anymore.

ETA: If you are going to do it the tight way nock any dirt that might be around the area off with a rag before you take the old one off. Dont want shit falling in the new filter.
