I have searched and searched on the forums, on google, google images etc and seeing if anyone has every figure out how to add grab handles above the door for your 2nd gen Tacoma. Not sure if im not finding it because others already have it or I am just not searching correct.

What I have found is when I look under my headliner there are two screw holes for grab handles on both the driver and passenger side. So i am assuming there is a Toyota part somewhere that would look OEM for a handle screws and caps. Has anyone done this before?

I know that holding on with both hands to the steering wheel is how you are supposed to drive but when i am doing long road trips I rest my left hand up there often as just a comfort thing to keep me awake if doing a 10+ hour drive, and all my other vehicles including a work van all have this handle.

Anyway if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it i am not too worried about head space getting in the truck only time I have that issue is when I wear my cowboy hat getting in but I have just learned to take that off before getting in the truck now anyway.

Never seen a vehicle without Oh-Shit-Bars. Hit a junk yard and steal em off a truck, no-one at a pick n pull would even give a shit, I doubt the handrails are even in their system as a sales-worthy part!

Let me clarify, I have handles on the A Pillar, I want the handles above the door itself. I don't care for the position of the A Pillar handles just a weird personal preference. That is when when I bent the headliner down I was able to see a mounting hole for them they are just covered by the headliner themselves.

I don't believe you can add them because you have side impact air bags that deploy from that area.

Just seems weird they would not be for a handle those holes as basically in the perfect position with a welded reinforced bracket they are spaced about 6-7 inches apart located on both the driver and passenger side lined up in the exact spot my work Sprinter van has a handle. (You can see them by pulling the door seal down just a little bit and looking under the headliner they are pretty obvious.

Actually I just went back out and looked and my truck doesn't have side airbags, dont know if that was a optional thing or not but I would have thought my model was mostly maxed out for the year as a TRD Offroad. But i went and took some pictures of what I was talking about. Phone battery was to low to use flash so I had to use a flashlight.

You weirdos with your 2nd gens. I like to keep it simple, if it involves safety or electronics you're speaking gibberish and I fail to understand.

I'll look at my 07 in the morning and if it has holes and nuts I'll be in the hunt for some grab handles to. What ever I find I will post pics and part#s.

So your problem is more common than one would think, but the answer to your question is yes you can use the existing holes there above the door. I personally just don't want to kill the interior of my vehicle
