Just like all of your comments here you don't even understand what you are saying. Volume is a measurement that you can take when you know dimensions. What you can't take from those dimensions is the moles of gas without knowing temperature and pressure of the gas.

Actually, to get really technical, ideal gas law is a GUESS at the moles that works out fairly close in most situations. If you wanted to sound smart you could of mentioned mass somewhere, because only with MASS can you truly know MOLES.

One more try for the masses:

If you have a 20x20' room and three people running around bouncing off the walls, do you have 400 square feet of people?

You. Can't. Measure. Gas. By. Volume.

Dude, a gas occupies it's volume completely. You are a prime example of the american educational system.

That's why I only used square feet, not cubed feet.

But lets assume people flew and we can factor in an 8' ceiling. Still don't have 3200 cubed feet of people.

Am I getting this wrong but is StAndrew saying gasoline is a gas (i.e. phase)???

    Good quote here:

Because most gases are difficult to observe directly, they are described through the use of four physical properties or macroscopic characteristics: pressure, volume, number of particles (chemists group them by moles) and temperature.

Volume is a property of gas. Stop being so incrediably stupid to assume that because you can't know the exact mass (mass is how you work out EXACT moles for EXACT calculations) of gas in a container without knowing it's volume and pressure that you can't know it's volume.

You are a whole new level of idiot and what's worse you can't tell you are wrong.

Gasses, not gasoline. Sorry for the derailment but honestly, until Toyota releases numbers, these topics are all BS anyways.

Not Americans are stupid. It is basic chemisty. And gases are measured by volume. :annoyed::annoyed:

    Yes. You do.

If I have a 1' cube of air... I have 1 cubic foot of air. Now that does not depict how much air is in that cube... Pressure and density decide that

If the air in that cube is at 500psi... IT'S STILL 1 CUBIC FOOT OF AIR

For all you brainiacs, please tell me how many liters of oxygen you need to complete burn one gallon of gas?

Nice post but why did you say the combined would be 7 above the 4.0@20mpg and then estimate low 20s?

We'd need to know pressure and temperature to have a guess at that.

But it doesn't change that the liters of oxygen would still be liters of oxygen, a measurement of VOLUME. GET IT YET.

I think you guys are talking past one another.
Gases are measured by volume, but volume of gas does not reflect on the moles within. So an actual appreciation for the quality (prolly wrong word) of gas cannot be determined by volume alone.

But isn't that irrelevant since the air going into the cylinders is regulated. Thus within reason the same proportion of oxygen will be consumed?
