We drove to St Louis from Newnan Ga (600 miles average ).
Going there I had a fully loaded truck and followed my wife to St. Louis getting 24 MPG.
On the way home, I did not follow anyone and the truck was not loaded, zip, nada, empty and I got 26 MPG (average). THIS TRUCK IS FREAKING GREAT!

    Too few to list.
With a light foot, good mpg can be attained. I managed to do about 22mpg on a DCSB V6 4x4 manual on a 800 mile trip with 4 passengers other passengers. I was hitting 400+ miles before the light goes on which from my fuelly experience is around 17.5 gallons. Also verified the gallons at fill up.

Yeah but here is the thing, I was doing 70-90 MPH depending on traffic. In an open straight road, I'd cruise at 80 MPH.

I've been getting about 26mpg on my highway trips to the cottage with my new 2014 2.7L 4x2 access cab. Not as good as my old Yaris but pretty nice!

About 750km round trip (466 miles).

I'm going to swear on my life one this one: I have a 98 PreRunner v6. I went a 230 mile trip and got 26.7 mpg. That's with cruise control and on a hot day though.

    My old 2008

I drove her, fully loaded and on the axle, from south Florida to North Louisiana on my way to Oklahoma before the semi tire took her (rim and all, went under the bumper and tore off the radiator, blew it back through the fan and wrapped them around the motor)

Those two days, I averaged 26.5 to 28.4 MPG on the highway.

I never kept track of mpg's, all i know is i have no complaints. Also, i agree that moderate acceleration, a light foot, helps and 60,65 on highway helps stretch the fuel.

I have a pretty long commute into New Orleans that is a mix of highway and surface streets with pretty heavy traffic: 22mpg
Pulling a trailer with a 4 wheeler and ice chests to the hunting camp: 20mpg
Interstate travel with luggage and two passengers at 75 mph: 25mpg

I'm a believer. Tacomas are great trucks.

Let's face it. When we bought the Tacomas instead of Prius's, we knew MPG was not going to be all that great. But, we also didn't buy the Tundra because we KNEW that would be awful on gas. This little Tacoma keeps surprising me week after week at the pump. I average 24.5 MPG with the AC on, almost all city miles. The 5 speed helps, shifting low RPM, etc. I haven't had it on the highway exclusively yet for a fill up, but I believe for sure it would go 28 MPG with the cruise on 65.

EDIT: I run Shell 87 octane exclusively in it. I did a mileage comparison between Shell and Hess, and Shell always gives 1.5 - 2 MPG better. Then, I did Shell 87 for a few tanks VS Shell 93 and the numbers were identical.

The 2.7 in my Taco is the only motor I've ever had that ran *worse* or got worse MPG on higher octane fuel

Mine is always about the exact same +/- .2 MPG. Not enough to justify the 40¢/gallon price difference. My truck loves Shell gas though. It's been exclusively on shell for over a year now.

Another caveat on Shell, I've put nothing but Shell in my wife's Corolla; just changed the original spark plugs at 100K and they looked brand new. I'm definitely on the Shell bandwagon. I just buy 87, not the Nitro-V-Power or whatever they call it.
