No they didn't. I wouldn't count on something like that though. Depends on what you believe were the reasons they ended the TRD supercharger program on all models.

Low sales volume? Not enough interested in paying the extra 3-4k for a few more nay nays.

You are correct. Sorry, Freudian slip.
While TRD isn't, URD still will be, and with the smaller engine, there might be more room in the engine bay (Pure conjecture) to finally throw a turbo (Or twin turbos) in there.
However, I was thinking the same thing with the dual cycle engine being a bit fucky with everything.

Who knows. If you talk to the dealers they made good money on the program even if they only did it once in a blue moon. I'm sure for Toyota it wasn't an epic money maker but if URD can make good money doing it I'm sure TRD was making even more given their larger access to resources.

You should just chuck the Ford Ecoboost crate engine in there :D. Actually I'd switch to a Ranger in a heart beat if they ever came back and came equipped with either the 2.7 or 3.5 Ecoboost as an option.

The way the motor is set up. It would be ideal for a turbocharger or a hybrid system, maybe at the mid cycle update we will see some changes.

All bolt ons + tuning solution. Capable of running high 13's.
    Turbo?

Is very likely that the new 4cyl turbo gets into the line up as a replacement of the V6.
Toyota already has plans of doing it with the camry and replace the V6 with a turbo 4 pot engine.

As a turbo fan like me that would be sweet if someone show up with a way to reflash the computer. That will make the Tacoma very tuner friendly with lots of capabilities of making lots of more power with serious updrades

No adding a Turbo to the V6. Would be a good way of adding power and the same motor can be used in the Tundra as a Eco Boost competitor.

    That would be great.

The problem is that toyota wants to stay on the reliability side. They are adding that new turbo 4 because they dont have another option. CAFE standards are pushing them to do it.

As I said, Im a turbo lover.
But I'm aware that turbocharged engines are more likely to blow up more than a n/a engine.
I believe this is the reason Toyota try to stay away from them.

Toyota has built Turbos in the past, and they are one of the few manufacturers who build Turbos for themselves instead of sourcing out to another company. The Eco Boost is selling well and don't think Toyota hasn't noticed. Rumour is that Gm and Ram are working on a similar engine. Toyota has to do something as right now the Tundra is terrible on fuel economy. I can also see Toyota implementing a D4S system with atkinson on the V8 engines as well.

they need to invest into an electric turbo, then you skip the cool down issue and lag/boost issues.

Yup. Everyone trying to catch up to Ford in truck engine technology. The funny thing is GM's entire marketing campaign is based on trashing the Ecoboost and Aluminum body panels. I wonder what GM will say in 5 years when they release a similar truck

Toyota wants to do turbos but I think they are having trouble getting the power they want at the efficiency level they want. Ford spent a long time getting the 3.5 L Ecoboost ready for market and even then there have been some headaches. If Toyota goes that direction it will take them some time to get it right too.

Ecoboost ftw. I would buy new toyota truck if they had a compact pickup with a small turbo v6... maybe a 3.4
